Buying Application Essay books, help deciding :D

Hi,

I'm considering buying some or all of the following Application Essay books, I'm wondering if you've ever read any of them, have heard of their reputation, or know any other better titles that have worked great for somebody, please share and tell your stories!

On Writing the College Application Essay: The Key to Acceptance and the College of Your Choice - I believe CC recommends this personally

On Writing Well: The Classic Guide to Writing Nonfiction - Admission officer at Yale suggested this

A is for Admission: The Insider s Guide to Getting Into the Ivy League and Other Top Colleges

and lastly, 100 Successful College Application Essays

Do these actually work? Do they give you more insight into what goes on in an essay an in an application that your counselor or English teacher can't provide?

Or are they just marketing strategies that drain your money?

Thanks in advance for the insight! :D

I recommend The Princeton Review’s College Essays that Made a Difference. Although this didn’t help my essay writing per se, it gave me a very good idea of what kinds of essays I would be up against. Good motivator.
