Anyone have a recommended place?
Son is off-campus now in furnished apt, but will be moving to an unfurnished apt. Thanks!
New? If you have a way to transport, then maybe Sam’s or Big Lots. Mattress Firm is national chain that is here and they have some low end. If there’s one near you, you might could pick out what you want and order to have delivered when you need it. I might try that with D in the fall at her OOS school. I’ve been very happy with Best Mattress (Devine St & W. Columbia), which is a local manufacturer. I have bought two of the entry level double sided mattresses and have been very happy and I know they make a one-sided (as in don’t flip it) that guy told me they sold to college students. Only downside is that they kind of produce to order so probably can’t walk out with mattress on same day.
Have also bought several metal, adjustable frames from Sam’s ($40) that work well and have enough space underneath for plastic storage if that’s an issue. If they have it at Sam’s, then probably same thing at Walmart if you order. We have a Costco opening in a couple of weeks. Not sure if options there.
Friend has son (over 6’) who likes a foam mattress that she ordered from Walmart that comes in box. Might be good option but need some kind of platform/slats to put it on. Could order for pick-up.
Not a fan of used mattresses (unless maybe if I know who had them last), but usually there is a free or for sale site you can join from USC facebook pages that are for students only.
Amazon also delivers free with prime. Might save a lot of hassle. Click, click and you’re done.
get a mattress from casper.com. It comes in a box and floofs out when you open it.
I’d hit up a thrift shop for a bed frame. That’s wood and metal, it shouldn’t be too skeevy and you can give it a good scrubbing and it should be fine for a guy.
Thank you all! We’d been batting around places there and some sort of delivery right to his new place, and these help fill in gaps.
- SCMom, good ideas… and will have to check into Best Mattress as an option. Sams and the others are useful too, and son will have pickup there to haul around! You always have great detailed answers.
- Gora, yes, we’ve pondered our Amazon prime… might work well.
- MoD, thanks for the link and frame idea.
We bought a platform frame online from Mattress Firm for about $95. It raises the bed 13" off the ground (so plastic drawers etc. will easily fit underneath) and eliminates the need for a box spring.
