Buying books for the SAT! Nub Needs Help...

I've seen threads of the WHITE book to the RED book to the BLUE book (Ok, I know what the blue book is, and I've managed to ... decipher well, what tcb and 10RS means...but that's about it!)

From what I've seen, 10 RS as well as "the blue book" seems popular.

Some questions

1) Basically, to get a good score, that means take practice tests from 10 RS (the red book? Or does it make a difference?) and the blue book O= right? This means that "Barron's 2400: Aiming for the Perfect Score" is not worth it right?

2) If we want to just focus on our CR and Writing sections...would books such as "Critical Reading Workbook for the SAT" from Barron's, etc etc, would those be as "effective"?

Thanks ^^

Basically, I'm going to do whatever it takes (and pretty much self-study as much as I can) to get a max score possible.

Math ... I can pretty much ignore that. I just want to focus on CR, writing and the essay. -gulp-

THANKS!

tcb= The Collegeboard-AKA the "not-for-profit- organization that brings u the adventurous SAT!

10RS=10 real SATs, again, from CB, ^ , do a google search, u’ll find it. its a red book. use it when u’re out of materials.
u can try out barrons 2400, though i had never used it. but people say its good~~
CR, mm i dont know, there isn’t much u can do besides getting to know the Qs by practice.
wr, is easy, just practice hard ,u’ll see patterns . but before that, make sure u get a grammar book, which we usually recommend—rocketreview.
g luck~

10 Real SATs? The book published in 2000? That’s recommended? I haven’t seen it before but I imagine a book from 2000 can’t be very accurate with today’s SAT…

I’ve searched around apparently it’s still good practice? ^o)

The general consensus for critical reading is that it is very hard to raise and the best thing for it is reading the classics, etc. However, a good book for critical reading is Grammatix. For writing, a good book help you improve is Rocket Revolution.

Nothing will really help you for cr. You need to do enough practice.

from what I understand, if you do the BB (official study guide) and the OC (online course), you’ll get most of the problems from 10RS plus the writing sections. After you’re done with these, the ETS has released a couple of old 2005 QAS booklets as practice tests. If you need MORE practice after this, you can get old PSATs from collegeboard for… $3 each (I think).

OK im not getting any of this technical jargon.

Red? White? BB? BLUE? TCB? RS?

I just know hte usual Princeton review, barrons, REA etc.
Which one should i use?

read post #2, BB=official guide from Collegeboard.
