Buying books with financial aid

What is the process of buying books with financial aid? Like let's say I want to buy a used book off of Amazon, how does that work? Also does anyone know if it's better to buy books before the first day of class or wait until the class meets and hear what the professor says about required books. Any help would be appreciated because this wasn't really brought up at orientation.

They minus your tuition from your financial aid and then the extra money goes into your bank account and then you use that to buy stuff.

Wait until the class meets. If its an english class or a class with novels then go ahead and buy them. If it’s a $100 textbook wait to see if you will really be using it. We never used our calculus book, which was $113, except for like ‘supplemental clarification’. Also I didn’t use a $50 course packet or a $60 architecture history book because all tests came from the lectures.

I also took a science class during the summer and on the syllabus online/bookstore it listed like 4 books. On the first day of class he told us not to buy them because it was a waste of money.

Thanks so much for the reply. Very helpful

Yeah I think i’m going to just wait until the first day of my classes to find out what I need. I can’t tell you how much money I would have saved last year at school if I had waited.
