Buying Books

I'm buying books this week and I was wondering whether or not you all recommend buying all them in one place, disregarding that there are places with better deals for certain books. I'm deciding to buy my books everywhere (Half.com, Amazon.com, and Amazon.co.uk) and was thinking that maybe it'd be a hassle considering some places and people take longer to ship certain things. Is there anyone out there who recommends the Cal Student Store at all? Everyone I've talked to told me not to go there because of the outrageous prices but are there any advantages to going there? Also, I'm still foggy about how finaid factors into book expenses. Thanks in advance.

Buy your books online. I recommend www.comegetused.com if you are on campus or if you wait till late August to purchase your books!

In regards to how financial aid affects book expenses: after your financial aid pays off your dorm and tuition expenses, if there is financial aid money left over the university will credit you that money and you can use that for anything you want.

errr....don't buy books yet! I don't even think that the books for each course are listed yet, so how do you know what to buy? (if you're basing it off of past semesters, don't, because professors can change, or even the same professor could be using different books)

I use amazon.com A LOT because sometimes new books there are cheaper than the used ones at the Cal Student Store/Ned's. (this tends to be true for non-textbook-ish books like ones you would use in an English or history etc course)

I've bought a few books at the CSS; it usually varies a few dollars in comparison to Ned's and Ned's has a better selection of used books.

There is a list of books on the Cal Student Store page for my courses; my only concern is not being able to receive books on time for the necessities of class if I were to order them later next month.

oh okay; my courses haven't been listed yet I guess.

Don't worry about "on time". Most kids don't even buy all their books until a week into the semester at least because they aren't 100% sure if they're going to take the class or not. It's really not necessary to have all your books on the first day of class, not high school hehe. I'm admittedly neurotic, so I definitely have freaked out when I saw the expected arrival date of textbooks from amazon.com, but I've never really had a problem.

It's July; I'm not even thinking about textbook purchases until Welcome Week. (well, okay, maybe I'll compare prices a little, but that's it)

I have purchased my textbooks already.... saved nearly 70%!!!

is comegetused like amazon or is it like where you swap books or buy them on campus?

1)When/where do we find out required textbooks?
2)What about classes that we are waitlisted for? Buy books..or no?

1) You can check online at calstudentstore.com some classes have books. And inside the student store, all books are organized by course and they tell you what books you need to get.
2) Its up to you on the waitlisted courses. I wouldnt buy books right away, just because it would be annoying to have to return them if i dont get into the class. I would go to the first class and see if you got a shot of getting in. You wont need your books during the first day, usually. Lines at the bookstore will be long for a couple of weeks, so that shows you how long people take to get books.

^^ Thank you.

What time do most people buy books?

The week before and 1st week of classes.
