I am loathe to buy a textbook online without the ISBN number to make sure I am getting the correct edition.

VIP does not provide the ISBN number for textbooks - how does one find them?

We are still feeling our way with the textbook purchasing. We did not buy in advance and Russell House is already out of my d's math textbook -- however, she can go down the street to the SC Book Store, so it is not an emergency.

VIP does not display the ISBN numbers. SHe might be able to look at the textbook in the bookstore and get the # from it directly. It might just be easier for the first semester to have her pick up her books locally. After that ,when shes more comfortable, she can use a combo of bookstores, online ordering, buying from another kid, etc.

She bought most of her books at the SC Book Store – they cost more than I expected, about $610, and she only needed books for four courses (math, French, Anthro, English).

Fendrock,

Try Adams Bookstore on Assembly Street. My daughter has bought used books and they are fairly generous buying them back at the end of the semester. Unfortunately, by this date, they may be sold out. They have all the course information so she’ll get the correct edition for her class/section.

Of course, you’ll spend extra on all their cute sweatshirts, dorm pants etc!

Keep it mind for next semester!

My first semester of freshman year, I bought my textbooks at the bookstore.
I will NEVER EVER buy them from any bookstore again. It’s quite ridiculous their policy of taking books back. If they are not going to use the same book again next semester, they wont buy the books back. And if you buy a used one, your chances are less for them to take it back.

They are overpriced and an absolute waste of money.

What I do is I google the name of book, author, edition, and year. I click on the searches and figure out what the ISBN is from there. Then I google the ISBN number and try to find the cheapest deals online. I have gotten all the books on time and they have all been in good shape and they have been the correct ones for the course.

A lot of students at USC realize the textbooks are way too expensive at the bookstore and they buy them online.

I saved LOTS of money doing this.
