Well since isis said that I am eligible for financial aid in buying text books. I decided I should just use the uf bookstore instead of buying online. My question is, I plan to purchase them after I move up on the 18th before classes start, and does the bookstore usually run out of books by then, or is there usually enough in stock?

you can buy them now and have them ready for in store pickup, that way they’ll have plenty of days to get your books.

I’ve never had them run out of a book (Unless they simply hadn’t stocked it yet) until a few days after class started. You’re probably eligible for deferment (which means you buy now, and they just take the money out of your financial aid), it’s not like you’re getting any special discounts to buy at the UF bookstore.

You should have enough time between the 18th and when classes start to compare prices at the local bookstores (Orange & Blue Textbooks, The Florida Bookstore), which are sometimes cheaper than the UF Bookstore.

There are still tons of books for the regular freshman classes available now though. If you’re going to use your deferment, might as well order online for in-store pickup to avoid the rush (double check your order to make sure you’re not purchasing duplicates).

at Preview, the staffers told us NEVER to buy our books ahead of time. Instructors’ lists of books required online may differ from what is actually needed for the class - wait until you actually attend the class in person because then your professor can tell you the exact books to buy. Buying them now may result in wasted money for books you don’t need.

Eh, what you said is true of many classes, but if you’re a freshman and you have common classes like Calc, Chem, Stats, Bio, etc. the required materials don’t change much from year to year so in those cases it’s better to avoid the hassle of the first week book-shopping rush if you can.
