Buying Fruit?

Hi, I just started at OSU and I’d like to buy some fruit, but I went into the convenience store where I live (Morrill) and there’s no fruit in there…My question is is there any place on campus to buy like a bag of apples or anything? If not…I also noticed a Kroger south of campus on High Street…would it be safe to walk there? Like is there a lot of crime when you get out of the campus area?

Thank you!

There are places on campus where you can get fruit by the piece but not by the bag. For more fruit, you can walk to Lennox Town Center and go to Target. It’s the closest walk- maybe 15 minutes. Walking to Kroger might take 1/2 hour but you’d cut the time if you take a bus. Kroger would have the best selection.

You should be fine walking to the Kroger south of campus–many students walk there alone, although make sure you do so in daylight hours. I honestly feel safer walking with a friend, if that is an option for you. You could also take the COTA bus- the #2 bus would take you right down High Street.

Crime is an issue off campus-- there are muggings and break-ins as there are in any urban community–however, if you always walk with other people you know, and don’t wander anywhere you aren’t familiar with, you should be safe. I would avoid going south of the Gateway area anytime after business hours.
