I am looking at buying my textbooks through UF's advance order rent-a-text website. I'm confused though about renting books instead of buying them. If I rent my textbooks can I still write and highlight in them? Or will they make me buy it at the end of the semester? My books cost a lot less if I rent them, but it is also really important to me that I can write in them.

I do believe that they may charge you if the book is damaged and has writing/highlighting in the book. If you want to “rent” the book and be able to write/highlight try renting a digital copy. You log in to or download the textbook and after a certain amount of time your license to use the book expires, but you can “write/highlight” in it and it has a search function.
