I just finished orientation and I'm looking too buy the textbooks ahead of time so I can just preview/study. The prices linked from the classes are insane though. Where are some cheap places I can find the textbooks?

ex. for chem20a
Oxtoby (9780495481041)
Pkg: Princ Mod Chem (6th) W/custom Ssm

Princ Mod Chem (6th)

I found the bottom one in amazon but not the top; is it some special type?

Yes, since the serial numbers don’t match it is a special type. That means you can’t “price match” at the ASUCLA store. Of course, I’ve found much of the extra materials are often useless. You should wait for school to begin to see how much you’ll need the “custom Ssm” (custom Students’ Solution Manual). I’m guessing the “custom” portion may just be a stripped down version of the normal, though.

You can always email your professor and ask if you can use an older edition. If so, you can buy them on Amazon or Half.com for much cheaper. Never buy books at the student store, unless you’re required to buy some special UCLA edition that only it carries. They’re usually much more expensive than Amazon/Half.

Hi guys,
I have the Oxtoby 6th edition from my fall quarter last year with Scerri. I bought the book new and it’s in excellent condition. I’ll even include the UCLA student solutions manual (SSM). PM if you want more details.

I also have Stewart’s Multivariable Calculus (Math 32A) and Rowgaski’s (32B) if interested.

UCLA Store will “price match” if you ask and it usually comes out cheaper because you don’t have to pay shipping. You also don’t have to wait for your package to come in the mail.
