Bypassing Cisco Clean Access

As many of you know, Cal poly runs a Cisco Clean Access agent to keep their network clean.
Does anyone here have any experience in bypassing Cisco Clean Access?
At this point i run Windows7, but i don’t want Cisco Clean Access installed and running on my computer. It requires you to use Norton anti-virus(total junk), the network administrator has exclusive access to all your files and control over your computer, and i don’t want my privacy infringed upon.(aka network logs, limited freedom on websites)

Does anyone have any experience doing the following bypasses?

 1. Dowloading Dirty Access Agent to bypass the system. http://daa1000.tripod.com/
 2. Changing the OS code in the browser
 3. Dual booting and running Linux(ubuntu) to bypass the system.
 4. Any other options?

Thanks!

I dont have any experience with any bypasses. I would just give it a shot… and let us know what works.

One of my friends (he’s a comp sci major), managed to do this somehow. He was also able to set up wireless internet access on his computer (which you’re not supposed to do in the dorms). As a liberal arts student, I have no idea how he did this, but I guess it is possible if you are good enough at this type of thing.

The Linux way works. I did it all the time last year. Just set up another partition and install Linux onto it. You first boot into Linux, then logon to Resnet. Resnet will assign an IP to your Ethernet MAC. Then you just switch back onto Windows and voila, you don’t need Cisco Clean Access to go onto the internet.

I suppose you could also do it the way NTKS17 mentioned through WiFi. If you have Linux, you could logon to Resnet and then share the internet connection through a WiFi adapter (your computer acts as a router or access point). You would then have other devices connect using WiFi via adhoc. However, I believe it specifically says in the Resnet IT policy you can’t share an internet connection or set up a router.

Your safest way to bypass CCA is to use Linux.

It’s been a long time since I was in the dorms, so my information might be dated.

The ‘boot linux, login, reboot’ method is well known, both to residents and to ResWeb. ResNet tried turning on some more invasive features to attempt to detect that. I remember having to change my MTU to make it work. You used to be able to fake your user agent to login, but they turned on some feature that uses a Java (!) applet to check what OS you were running at one point.

A Router(Box) in between works. Just make sure you login from a Linux machine EVERY time. They do keep logs of every login. Oh, and for love of Pete, do NOT run a DHCP server on the network side. That breaks things very badly and gets other people in trouble for ‘using a router’.

Or, you could just run Linux full time and skip the hassle :).

Got something you are trying to hide ? Anything illegal?

Of course i don’t.
Alot of politicians utilized that argument when they passed the Patriot Act: “If you dont have anything to hide, then why not have your rights infringed upon and your privacy taken from you?”
