c/0 2017 on campus housing question!!!

heeeeeeey!
so i just received an email asking me to fill out my housing contract and i was wondering if any current students could give me a lil info about the better/more exciting residence halls?
i have no idea which to pick; I have pre-paid so my options are: Broward, East, Fletcher Graham, Jennings, Mallory, Rawlings, Reid, Riker, Simpson, Sledd, Tolbert, Trusler Weaver, and Yulee!
these names mean absolutely nothing to me so i just wanted to know what kind of vibe there is in each building, if that makes sense lol
i don't really mind any rowdiness, i prefer that to a boring hall so please post your experiences 0:)
thank youuuu

Don’t worry about picking a dorm now. When it’s your turn to pick a dorm, you’ll do it online and can change it any time. Just be ready with your choices when it’s your scheduled day. It starts in April usually. Have a few choices in case the one want is full already.

My daughter is in Jennings and it was refurbished a few years ago and got all new furniture this year, so compared to others it’s pretty nice. But, hey, it’s a dorm room. She likes Jennings, but her floor isn’t very social (varies by floor, not just dorm). She ends up socializing in Simpson where a few of her friends live. It really seems to depend on the floor and RA on how social the dorm will be. Both of these dorms have a lot of Freshmen. Jennings is close to Broward dining and the other dorms around there also have a lot of Freshmen.

Do we have to sign the housing contract by February 26th ? How much is the fee?

The fee is $200 and on my contract it says it is due Feb 26th

Yeah mine too. What if we are not 100% sure we are going to UF? Aren’t we able to wait to see the amount of FA we will get?

Aares, then you lose the $200 if you cancel the contract by May 1.

Oh alright, thank you for answering! Do you know when we are notified of the amount of FA we will get?

You get merit scholarship info mid-March, that’s all I know.

I also had a question about the housing. My daughter was accepted to IA. She really wants to live in Beaty with the other IA students. When we got the e-mail about the contract, it said she could find a roommate with Roommate Sync, and that the password would come later. Well, I filled out the early parts of the website form, and now, it is asking what dorm she wants and what roommate she wants. But she hasn’t gotten the roommate sync password. It looks like she has to put the roommate from NOW, even though IA doesn’t start until January, and they don’t even assign rooms for spring term until August. The only other person she knows who is doing IA is male. She’s talked to some people online, but they’re going to get apartments in Gainesville so they can attend Santa Fe in the fall, which she’s not doing.

So my questions are:

Have others gotten the roommate sync e-mail?

If she just submits the form without choosing a roommate now, is she forever foreclosed from selecting a roommate and just has to take what she gets, or is there another opportunity before room assignments in August?

I see the deadline is February 26. Does it matter whether she submits this now or on February 26, or is priority by the date of the original housing application when she applied?

Our first priority, really, is that she gets into Beaty with the other IA students, so I don’t want to drag my feet, waiting for this roommate sync e-mail. But, of course, if she is able to select a roommate, that would be better.

Thanks.

I don’t know anything about IA, but for the Fall students, you have until you sign up for your room on line to pick the dorm and roommate. The contract asks for your choices, but it’s really not important if you end up picking your room on line later. That’s when you specify roommates too. This starts sometime in April for Fall students, so there is plenty of time to find a roommate on Roomsynch.

And your priority is based on when you submitted the original housing application and paid your $25.

Great, thanks! They ask her to put in three dorm choices. If she doesn’t get into Beaty, what is another good dorm NEAR Beaty?

FYI if you are doing summer B and fall together, you can sign up for your room in March…yu still have to do both contracts in Feb. so that is $400 ($200 each)

Summer B students who completed both a Summer B and Fall/Spring Contract by the due date above will have the opportunity in March to select a Summer B room. If this Summer B room is also open for Fall/Spring the Assignments team will roll your assignment forward for Fall/Spring. This will only be offered in the month of March. This will save you time and money. If your rooms are not the same for Summer B and Fall then you will have to move out during the break period. UF Housing does not have storage between Summer B and Fall. *If you transfer rooms in Summer B (one you are on campus) your room will not be transferred for Fall/Spring.
