Q: Do we all have to wait until the end of july to receive our decisions? or how long after you submit the C.A.R. do you get a result?

A: After you submit your CAR, they begin to process your request immediately. However, the result time depends on the availability on your room. For example, if you requested to switch to a Plaza-Double-Shared bathroom, they will process your request every day until that specific type of room is available, and they will switch you to your room.

After the 20th of July, no student will be allowed to turn in C.A.R.s, and if no room is available for you by the 27th of July, you will be notified by email that you will have to go through with your original offer.

Another thing that an administrator wanted me to notify you is that when they do find an available room with your requested type, they will place you in immediately without your finalization. So, make sure you understand that C.A.R.s are 100% final.

Q: Do they send you an email notification of the decision or is it through the mail?

You will receive an email noting a new housing placement is available to be viewed.

Q: Are CAR requests are filled on a first-come first-served basis?

A: CAR requests are not entirely “first-come first-served” per se. The sooner you turn in your CAR request, the more likely you will assume a space that you requested. I’m not sure what happens when there is competition for the room. I would assume, however, that they will give grant the request to the student whose request was sent in the earliest.

On another note, rooms seem to switch in-and-out every single day. There should be a good chance that many students who submit a CAR will have their requests accepted unless the roomtype asked for is high in demand.

If your CAR is denied in the summer, you will still have a chance in the Fall to possibly switch rooms. During this time, you must make an appointment with your Resident Director on the first or second week after you settle in order to have access to the Open Transfter event. Open Transfter Nights will (or at least should be) advertised on the Hill.
