c grades

it’s kinda a stupid question, but what are the odds of getting into schools like UCR, UCI, CAL STATE’s , UW, University of Hawaii with three C’s but rest straight A’s as a junior for nursing or writing? Even if I had a reason to get C’s such as a family death and depression? And did 500+ of volunteer work, won multiple band awards, 5 member of the states best marching band, two years of orchestra, three years of winter guard , member of multiple clubs, and did two years of journalism? Don’t know SAT grade yet. I’m just hoping my life isn’t over yet for doing terrible…

UC’s and CSU’s (except Cal Poly SLO) use 10-11th grades for the A-G course requirements in their GPA calculation. The majority of UC’s and CSU’s use the capped weighted UC GPA but UCLA/UCB will also consider the fully weighted UC GPA. Here is the UC GPA calculator to give you an idea of where you stand:

6 of the 9 UC campuses have an average 4.0+ UC Capped Weighted GPA. You can check last year’s Freshman profile for each UC campus which includes acceptance rate, 25-75th percentiles for UC GPA, SAT and ACT scores.

For the Cal states, there are 23 campuses of varying selectivity so there should several CSU’s that would gladly accept you.

How Cal States admit:

The Cal states admit by major and eligibility index. They really only consider GPA/Test scores/Geographic location and HS course rigor. Other than Cal Poly SLO, your EC’s are not considered.

You need to calculate your CSU/UC GPA using grades from a-g courses taken 10-11th.

https://rogerhub.com/gpa-calculator-uc/

Not sure which courses are a-g and will give you extra honors points, then use this link by typing in your HS name?

https://hs-articulation.ucop.edu/agcourselist#/list/search/institution

Cal states and the majority of the UC’s use the capped weighted GPA.

Then calculate your Eligibility index:
If you took the Redesigned SAT:
(CSU capped weighted GPA X 800) + (SAT Evidence Based Reading & Writing (EBRW) + Math Score) = Eligibility Index

Eligibility index for ACT:
(CSU capped weighted GPA X 200) + (ACT Composite x10)= Eligibility Index

**CSULB and SJSU use a modified EI for STEM/Engineering majors:
http://www.sjsu.edu/admissions/impaction/impactionresultsfreshmen/index.html

You will then be ranked based on EI and major and they accept from the top down until all spots are filled.

You will get priority at your local CSU and Local applicants usually require a lower EI to get an acceptance unless the program is highly impacted.

So do the best you can and come back to update your stats. Best of luck.
