Recs and Essays are good, but then who would think their's are bad?

No way to know. My D was waitlisted with a 34 ACT & great stats (she got into Tufts & Vanderbilt). However, she never visited or contacted admissions. I suspect that may be why she was waitlisted rather than accepted. She lost interest after she applied ... about the time the first cold weather hit us ... she is going to school in the south now! :) My advice is to show interest with more than just the app.

Agree with Kelsmom. Our s had good HS stats, not stellar. However, he had international experience, visited campus twice, had a great alum interview and was lucky enough to know another Mac alum well enough to ask her write another letter for him (she was his counselor for an international service project). He is now a very happy sophomore at Mac. It is a great school and worth the extra effort if you feel it's the place for you.
