79.2 to be exact for first semester>.<
GC is mailing out mid-year reports next week to the five schools that i have not heard from(BC-deferred, UIUC-deferred, U Maryland(letter comes out february), BU, and NYU)
Since I plan to major in finance/accounting, having a low grade in calculus is definitely not advantageous because business does require a sound understanding of math. I have particularly struggled with calculus after getting mid to high B's in my previous math courses. However I do have a 740 SAT I math score and a 750 for Math II. Also my senior year schedule is rather heavy (3 AP's).
With all that said, should I really be worrying about the 79 in regards to my chances of admission? I mean, are senior year first semester grades an important factor in admissions?
Appreciate the help! :)

It would not be enough to get your acceptance rescinded from anywhere, but it would definitely affect your chances if you were deferred or you applied RD.

You say that the rest of your grades are mid to high B's, which is not great. If you had mostly As and you got one C, it looks like a fluke, but a mid-B trend with a C could look like a downward slope.

I think sushicutter meant that they received B's in previous math classes, not the rest of their classes.

^ thanks teamam, thats what i meant :)

Wow, your situation is almost exactly like mine:
3 AP's this year
740 Math SAT I
C+ first semester in Calc AB
Mid to high B's in previous math courses
I want to major in engineering, so calc has similar impact as your finance major would.
I really hope we don't get screwed over because of one grade. Are you planning to send a letter or anything, because I was thinking about it, but not I'm not so sure it would help at all...

Best of luck to you.

yo mike, best of luck to you too. Similar to you, I will also write a paragraph explaining the situation and that in no way is that grade an accurate representation of what my success will be in college. I might also get my calc teacher to write a sentence or two telling the college about the situation. And then the most i can do is work hard the second semester and prove to the colleges that I am capable of doing better than a 79.
Good luck!

Btw where did you apply?

hey sushi,
so you think it's a good idea to send a letter? I'm starting to think it might be the right way to go. I'm going to talk to my calc teacher and see what he says. Anyway, I applied to Wash U., BU, Rochester, Carnegie Mellon, Cornell, Michigan, Drexel, Pitt. Got into the last two already. But really, I would be quite upset if my willingness to take on a challenge and up the ante for myself causes a severe impact on my academic future.

It's probably a good idea to send a letter. It shows that you are aware that getting a C+ is not okay and that you weren't lazy, you just had a bad quarter.

^Yeah, that logic is starting to make sense. Thank you for the support. Sushi, we should probably send letters.
