C in calculus

Hi, I got a C in my Calc II class (a B in the Calc I)... I had a great professor, just had an extremely bad end of the semester period, entirely my fault, no excuses. I still plan to pursue medical school, however, since I've pulled my act together and know what I did wrong. However, I am wondering if I should redo the calculus class? I mean I really don't want this to come back and haunt me in 3 years. I don't hate the class, and I feel terrible for doing badly (long story) I am wondering though, are there any precendent for retaking a class when you did very badly yet got the credits? Would your cumulative GPA include both grades... would a second improved grade look better in the eyes of admissions? (since I won't be taking advanced level math again in the near future)

Thanks...

Paraiso, I would not retake the class if I were you. For one, you may not even have that option. Many schools won't let you retake a class unless you withdrew or received a D or an F. Whether or not your school would include both grades into your GPA depends entirely on the school, you will need check your school policy for that. As mentioned on the board previously, a second improved grade would show that you can get a good grade in a class that you have already taken (this will not be seen as very impressive). Also, while Calc is important, it is not as critical as some of the other required classes. I think you should move from on calc and focus on a new batch of classes for next year.

Finally someone who doesn't blame the professor. Hurray!!!

Thank you...

So what should I do? Take other courses, obviously I am not going to take the more advanced courses because if I got a C I clearly don't have the pre-req background to do well in a higher level course. Would courses like statistics and linear algebra fulfill these criteria?

My worry is that I've heard that med schools take 5-6 classes including several introductory classes, regardless of how well you've done in your entire 3-4 years as the baseline for accepting applicants. I don't know if this is a misconception or not, to be honest, I really don't understand how med schools accept students (the criteria). Anyways, I just simply can't accept that this misstep at this point in my life has screwed me for 3-4 years to come... I want to remedy it in anyway I can now. Any help would be appreciated.

dude, chill. A C hasn't screwed up your life. You took your two Calc classes and passed them both. That's enough to fulfill the calc requirement for med schools. Don't take any more calc. Move on.
