Hi, i'm finishing my freshman year. I'm a good student, straight As first semester(including calc 1, chem 1, chem 1 lab, etc). Second semester I royally screwed up in chem 2 and chem 2 lab by not going to class and no studying. I got a C+ in both of them. My other grades were As except for one B+.

WHAT SHOULD I DO???? Should I retake?(I'm 10000% sure I will get an A in both). Or should I just move on and get As in orgo and orgo lab. Note that I DO NOT CARE about the hassle of retaking them. Do not factor that in your decision. All i care about is whats best for med school.

Thanks SO MUCH IN ADVANCE.

(also did i screw my chance up of getting into any good med school(top 25) with these grades? i'm really depressed right now)

You’re totally done. Forget medicine and go into plumbing… J/k…
But seriously, I’m tired of seeing threads like this ten times a week. Use the search function. You’ll be surprised how many similar threads were posted in the past.

Chances at a Top 25 school are quite low, yes, but they started out that way. Do a search. If your research skills are as bad as your post indicates then yes, you are done. You are the weakest link. Goodnight.

Chances at a top 25 are certainly reasonable provided you maintain mostly A’s from now on with especial emphasis of organic chem 1 and 2. You also need a good MCAT score obvious. And, yes, some research experience would be good too ;)

ha ha ha. funny apumic. if you re-read my post you’ll see I asked for very specific advice, retaking a lower level chem course. I’ve read a multitude of other posts, most are related to orgo and are asking their chances of med school, if they should drop, etc.
I’m asking for a lower level chem course, do not have the option to drop, have a specific grade(C+), and for both the main class AND lab. I’m asking if I should retake given the circumstances(the closest thread i’ve read was related to physics, and they suggested to move on b/c the person did not like physics and did not want to retake. also most retakes were unsure whether they would get an A if they were to take the class over.

so I had very specific questions that couldn’t be answered in other threads. this is why i asked. the franticness of the top 25 was just a question was half serious half joking, mmmcdowe answered it well, thank you very much mmmcdowe.

Considering I personally have answered this exact same question probably 25-50 times in the past, and who knows how many times others have answered it, I very much doubt that you couldn’t have found it in other threads. Moreover, the other threads you described aren’t different from what you asked.

I’m not trying to be mean, so I’m sorry if it comes off that way, but please search before you post something; there are only a handful of people that regularly answer questions here, and it’s annoying when people come in and ask the same things over and over without bothering to see if it’s been posted before.

OP, there’s really nothing else for anyone here to say that hasn’t been said most of the threads you already looked at. Please do a search before posting as you’ll get a much wider range of opinions and less disdain from other posters. Original questions are more than welcome but when you come in here with the kind of question you asked, which has been answered literally hundreds of times here alone (and tens of thousands of times on SDN), it is a bit annoying and, honestly, the best answer we can give you is to do a search because you’ll get a much better idea of where our answers come from by doing that.

Really? I’ve done a simple 1-minute search using the searchword “retaking” and found the following threads, which are basically similar to yours. The advice in those threads can be equally applied to your situation.

NO, you didn’t answer that question gold shadow. And i’ve already read each and every one of those threads. One, they’re different courses and different situations, and two, the advice was pretty crappy except for a few responses.

I was reposting because it was a different situation and was hoping for better advice. And you guys did give me advice: that CC is a piece of crap and most probably don’t know what they’re talking about and couldn’t help me anyways. So, thanks in that respect! :)

And it’s hilarious how you can’t see the irony in telling me to stop re-posting things when nearly all ****ing 6 of the replies said the same exact thing and provided no help whatsoever!!! (except for mmmcdowe)

This post by Bigredmed in one of the threads just given to you sums up everything.

No need to be so rude to the posters here for them answering the same question 1000 times. They are not the ones who blew off going to class and studying, that would be you. Another hint, don’t come back in a couple of years and ask “Should I write an explanation on my med school applications for why I got a C+ in Chem 2?” I think I’ve seen that question asked hundreds of times, mostly for UG though.

The top one is the answer to your question. The others would also be good to read.

Honestly, the other answers in those threads all apply equally to your situation. We cannot give you that individual of advice b/c we don’t have necessary information/knowledge/data to advise to a level of specificity that your question would get much of a different answer than anyone else’s exact same question about another prerequisite course. To be much more specific would require knowing your academic record, strengths/weaknesses, whcih schools you might apply to, and insider info about each of those schools. For the most part, those are all things we don’t possess and, therefore, cannot give you anything more than general advice.
