C in Junior year first semester...

<p>I'm a junior in highschool,
Unfortunately.. I got a C in my REGULAR english class due to late turn in..
My essay score was originally 84% but my teacher dropped it down to 42% which is devastating since I could have gotten a B+ in that class rather than a solid C. I'm taking APUSH and APBIO and I think I'll have a 3.1 gpa by the end of 1st semester.
I know it's horrible. But I'm going to raise them to all A's for 2nd semester for sure.
From Freshman to Sophmore year, I had about 3.758 gpa and if I end up with a 3.5 gpa this year, that means that I'll have around 3.6. Do universities or colleges care if you had a really low first semester grade in junior year? Will they care about my C in regular English class? Does senior year grade actually go into your gpa when applying for university because I really want to end up with a 3.7 gpa by getting 4.0 in senior year. But people have told me that universities only care about gpa from freshman to junior year.
Sorry for all this.. I'm really paranoid right now :'(</p>

<p>if get a low grade during any of your first three years in hs, colleges will ignore it and recalculate ur gpa as if it never happned
so dw</p>

<p>That’s definitely not true ^
Colleges will take into account all of your specific low grades including that C, whether or not they recalculate your GPA. I understand your pain. I ended up with a 79 1st semester of Junior year, and it will definitely hurt my chances just as it will hurt yours. Doing badly Junior year is a lot worse than during freshman or sophomore year. </p>

<p>However, if you manage to raise that grade to an A 2nd semester, it will go a long ways to mitigating the harmful effects of the C. If colleges see that it was a fluke or rather that you can work hard by dramatically raising the grade, then you should be okay. And for RD, colleges will use your 1st semester senior grades and new GPA/rank in their decisions. They care a lot about senior 1st semester GPA, unless you’re applying somewhere EA/ED</p>

<p>Colleges will take into account all of the grades on your transcript, taking particular interest in your junior and senior grades.</p>

<p>The C will hurt, but it won’t kill you. All you can do at this time is focus on next semester. Try to get all A’s and do well in your first semester of senior year!</p>

<p>I see… but do they care about the whole unweighted gpa from freshman to senior or do they actually look more into the letter grades you have gotten through those years? if i suceed in getting all A s next semester, would it be a good idea to write something about the reason why i did poorly in first semester of junior year whe sending in applications?</p>

<p>every school is different. regardless, you need to do better. it is all you can control.</p>

<p>Will they even see semester grades? Transcripts are different at different schools. Ours only shows final grades. Ask for an unofficial copy of yours and see if freshman and sophomore semester marks are there.
Depending on the schools you like a C may or may not be an issue. Do your best to raise the grade by the end of the year is the best advice I have. Good luck!</p>
