c/o 2012 questions

1) When is the ideal time to contact your nomination sources? 2) I was accepted into NASS, so my preliminary application is already complete, correct? If it is, will Navy send me the full candidate packet automatically, or is there something else I need to do to get one? 3) Does the PFT at NASS count as your PFT for you application? And can you take it more than once?

Alot I know, but I just want to know whats ahead a little better.
Thanks in advanced.

Check with your nominating sources, each will have a different timetable. In our state the packages are due fairly early in September and the information was available on the MOC's websites late spring.
2.USNA will send you the information for the full application and the required passwords. Your NASS application was your prelminary app.

Your CFA done at NASS will count as you CFA for your application. Mine never took it again so don't know how that works but many have.

Good Luck and enjoy NASS

That is correct. The CFA you do at the NASS is the only one you will have to take for admission. I did not have to retake it but was told at last years NASS that if you need to retake it the Academy will let you know. Also when you finish the CFA at NASS you will pretty much know if you passed or failed. The CFA is a pass/fail test. You do however get extra points for how well you perform.

Congrats empire_12 on your NASS acceptance!

Mdlrnc and profmom2 already answered your questions - but I will chime in on #2 question. In March of my kiddo's senior year, at the county-wide "Service Academy" night, I asked our Congressman's representative if there was any advantage to getting their application in early - wondering if they number them in order of being received or anything like that. In our case, she told me no - that as long as any application is received by their deadline - they are all considered equally. She added that their office checks over each application if it comes in a few weeks early - and notifies the person if something is missing or incomplete - so there was a small advantage if they got a few weeks between the deadline and the receipt.

We opted to wait until senior year had started - our kiddo had completed NASS, was involved in sports and classes of her senior year - and therefore could add more 'recent' thoughts and information to the application process and her essays for the Congressman and Senators of our State.

From USNA's point of view, as profmom2 said - they now 'have your number' and you'll be hearing more from them soon.

God be with you!!

Here are a few dates to give some illustration of timing on this, at least for our plebe2b

Applied to NASS 1 Feb; accepted 15 April.

Communicated info to BGO in May;

Got Candidate # in late May/ early June.

Passed CFA @ NASS 3 ... June 19 or so

Set interview with BGO in late June; met in early Aug

Got medical info in mid July; set appointment for early August

All transcripts, application data, recommendations in by late Aug

Completed, submitted medical in early August; needed additional info on one situatiion; submitted in mid Sept; medically qualified early October

Letter indicating "scholastically qualified" in early Oct

Received invite to CVWs in early October

Attended CVW @ Annapolis late Oct.

Started nom process in April (got apps, started completing), all sent in late August, early Sept.

Received nom in late November.

Received offer of appointment 15 Dec.

This is not "the way" as each candidate has his/her timing issues, locations, and circumstances that will dictate to the calendar. But this may lend some sense of sequence and key issues that the 2012ers are and will face.

yes, you can retake the cfa. i had to, no one told me to until about four weeks ago. i just knew i didn't want them to look at my profile with my old scores. i worked on it from july to march and i passed.
