Do you think taking a summer course would look great upon me if I applied again next year? Do you think it would help my chances. I am on the waitlist as of right now. What could be the best way to improve my chances getting in? more involvement, better academics, more stuff over the summer?
At this point, there’s really not much to do. It’s just a waiting game. If you apply again, I would make sure to have more involvement in volunteering and clubs. Also, keep those grades up high!
Ok sounds good. I plan to shadow this summer, currently taking two courses, working, and finding time to volunteer somehow.
What particular clubs are a good way to get involved?
Join clubs that you enjoy, not clubs that you think will look good on paper.
Yea i know. The school im at lacks them to be honest. Ive been in ptk for a year and i.dont have a clue how to get involved.
Phi Theta Kappa? If elections are coming up, see if you want to be in a leading position. Carolina loves seeing leaders. Try to start fundraisers or a project. If you show initiative, it’ll put you in a more beneficial position.
Me and another have thought about starting some club, organization, or some charity. Just being limited. In addition my fall semester is going to be loaded. Organic chemistry,
gen bio II, either precal trig/or jump it staight to calculus.
The bio program at my school makes that bio extremely tough for a intro due to the other prorams at my school.
Yep, you could start something like that. I think starting an organization for a passion that you have is really great.
Good luck with your classes! It is really important to stay on top of them. UNC wants to see that you are able to keep up with rigorous courses.
How hard is it to make an A in class? I know some classes like chemistry are really hard but things such as English or economics?
I have not taken any classes like English or Economics at UNC, but I have had friends who complain or really enjoy the subjects. Econ 101 is a “weed-out” so it tends to be harder. ENGL 105/105i is a freshman class and it’s a hit or miss. Some profs are pretty easy while others make it a little tougher.
I took CHEM 101 (not a subject I enjoy or understand super easily) and I made a decent grade. My friends took it the semester before me and absolutely despised the class. They also ended up changing their majors.
As long as you put in the effort, there’s always the chance of getting an A. It really depends on your weaknesses, strengths, and how well you study.
As a first-year student, should I be trying to register for classes now or should I wait until freshman orientation? I have no idea what a typical freshman schedule should look like and what AP credits I qualify for yet.
First-year students aren’t able to register for their classes until a couple weeks after orientation. You can, however, search for classes and plan out your schedule now using your online account. They will go over the registration process and your necessary freshman courses at orientation. As for the AP credits, the UNC website has a list of all the AP and IB scores required to get credit for classes.

For registration, in my daughter"s year, they recommend have a list of 20-30 classes that you would be interested in taking. Classes fill up quickly so be prepared to have options.
As for clubs, in the beginning of fall they have a large event where you can find out about the clubs on campus.
On move in day, do people just bring suitcases?? Perhaps a stupid question haha
You will see everything from neatly packed to chaos. I prefer a combination of boxes and suitcases. Consider buying a small collapsible hand-truck (about $30). Much easier than carrying everything by hand.
