C. Prescott Davis Scholars

I got into this thing for Columbia. The letter felt vagueish though.

Can anyone who was/is in it elaborate on the specific benefits that they got from being this scholar?

The scholars program is really more of an incentive to matriculate than anything else. It basically entails for your freshman year participating in a biweekly scholars seminar (essentially pointless), attending a couple of mandatory speaker sessions (often pretty interesting), and doing some sort of group project that I still don’t entirely understand.

Benefits:

(1) Often waaaay better financial aid. My CP Davis grant made Columbia a cheaper option than state school for me.

(2) Summer internship/research opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t be available to freshmen (which you should most DEFINITELY take advantage of)

(3) Putting it on your resume

RypuAK, congrats! I got this as well :)

My question is, could I somehow leverage this to get at least some financial aid (I wasn’t offered any at all)?

^Oh wow, is this part of the acceptance letter you guys got? I tried to open my financial aid, but it wouldn’t work, so just wondering if this scholarship notification was included in the welcome/congrats letter.

^when I opened up the acceptance letter, a window popped up and this came right after it on the next page

i got one of these too…can anyone tell me if it is in addition to financial aid or if that’s all the money i’m getting? because i can’t afford columbia if that’s all the money i’m getting…

@alienwithane
if you got need-based financial aid offers from other schools, show the best one to columbia, and they’ll match it or give you even more money.

When were you guys notified of the Scholar selection? I was admitted to CC but I don’t think I got any scholar programs. I was just wondering!
