How is SLO doing with the budget cuts?
I’m guessing 5 years now for basically everyone instead of 4… Possibly 5 and a half. But at a great place like SLO, I wouldn’t mind that extra year.

Teaching quality / less class options / other stuff?

in 3 years what will slo be like? 5 years? 7 years? is the economy just in downward spiral and slo could be in much worse shape in like 5 years?

slo seems so great, im just worried and am considering going to a private insted…

So far this year, the budget cuts have caused fees to go up, the professors are required to take 2 furlough days a month, and some support staff have been laid off. They are actually pushing new students to graduate in 4 years, requiring them to take a full course load, and once you have passed the required courses to graduate, you have to graduate. One of the collateral effects of the increases in the UC system is that students who would normally opt to go to a UC are applying for SLO, because it is more affordable, but still a highly respected school. Expect more cuts and fee increases this year.

Cal poly is one of my daughter’s first choices maybe 50-50 chance? at best??thoughts??
Cal poly gpa 3.9 and ACT 25 tons EC - 300 community hours with AP and Honors since HS
now with budget cuts and private universities willing to get some aid, very glad she applied to some private and out of state schools. With WUE Tuition - out of state is not so bad!

“I’m guessing 5 years now for basically everyone instead of 4… Possibly 5 and a half. But at a great place like SLO, I wouldn’t mind that extra year.”

I think you have that backwards. Now, instead of 5 or 5 and a half years to graduate, students are being required to graduate in 4 (or 4 and 1 quarter). It costs the state of California a lot of money for each year a student is enrolled, so getting students out faster actually saves $$$ for the state.

I think a lot of students in the past have had the attitude you espressed that “at a great place like SLO, I wouldn’t mind that extra year” and have added minors like wine and viticulture for the heck of it, or took 12 units per quarter rather than 16 to be able to enjoy themselves more. They were in no hurry to leave SLO.

Well, the budget problems are putting an end to that. Students will be required to progress at the “graduate in 4 years” rate, or will be put on administrative probation.

Sorry Nutellaella, I didn’t mean to slam Wine and Viticulture as a major. I only meant that some people were adding “fun and interesting” minors that allowed them to stay in SLO longer, even if they had no intention of going into the Wine business afer college. :)

You know dude, it isn’t even so much about your name. it’s more about your attitude. Some of your posts are pretty sketchy. i don;t know you, but you come across as rough around the edges. a rebel. someone who seems to enjoy the drama. Kind of like a shock jock. as for your name, that bothers me less than your over all demeanor.

what’s your major? I hope you clean up your act because Im not so sure you would do well in public.
