CA ? - Intend to pursue financial aid?

Should I say yes knowing I plan to submit for financial aid but I know I won't get any? If I say no might I get more merit?

It depends on the school. But, why would you say that plan to submit for financial aid if you’re sure that you won’t get any?

i thought everyone applies by the FASFA form? I not positive we wouldn’t but people with similar incomes have told me we’d likely only get offerred the unsubsidized loans. Maybe I don’t understand the question.

Grants, loans, work study, etc. all count as financial aid, so if you want to be considered for any of that stuff then you’ll need to complete and submit whatever forms the school or financial institution requires. If you’re sure that you won’t qualify for or don’t need any financial aid, then there’s no reason to worry about FAFSA and other financial aid paperwork.

It may be to your benefit to to state on the Common App that you do not intend to apply for financial aid, depending on the school.

This question is not part of the basic common app questions. It is being asked of you by a specific school. We could better answer your question if we knew which school you are talking about.

For most schools asking this question, it is phrased like this

This probably means the school is not need-blind in admissions and it gives you an admissions boost to answer the question No.

It also probably means any merit aid is awarded without regard to how you answer this question. In fact many schools go on to ask specifically whether you want to be considered for merit scholarships. If you say No, you don’t want to be considered for need-based aid but Yes you do want to be considered for merit-aid, you probably will get the same merit aid, if any, as you would if you had said Yes to both questions.

Thank you that is helpful. Most of my schools ask that question but don’t reference merit.
I think I’ll say no. Thanks
