Hi, I’m wondering what you guys got for your CAL GRANT for UC-Berkeley. I only got $1551, then again, what is CAL tuition for in-state students?

it's out already??

If you only got $1551, that means you only got the Cal Grant B. Is your GPA less than 3.0? That would be one explination.

wut is happening here?? is the Grant out already?? i haven't got anything yet?? if u get the grant , does it mean u kinda getting accepted to berkeley?? i am so confused

yeah, i'm also confused. I thought the FAFSA wasn't due until March 2.

the earlier u submit your fafsa, the sooner the response.

ya i submitted mine 2/1. Yes I got the Cal Grant B. My Cal Grant A was for Stanford--7,449. I don't know what's the difference between A and B. No getting a Cal Grant doesn't mean you got accepted into the particular school.

Static: Are you attending a CCC and applying to UC and Stanford? $1,551 is the Cal Grant B for CCC students. If you get the Cal Grant A for UC it should be between $4-6 g's. Stanford Cal Grant A is up to over $9 g's.

Lil-whatever: The Cal Grant isn't "out" in the sense that no one should have received their disbursement for this current semester. It is also no indication of whether or not you were accepted.

hmm that's weird...CCC? Community College? No I'm a senior in a California high school.

how did you find out that you got cal grants? is there a website to check? or were you notified by mail?

that's so sad someone called me Lil-whatever. :(
I am LITHIUMBROMIDE!!!! that's a fantastic chemical name!!!

you're notified by mail.

You receive the notice about 3-4 weeks after submitting the FAFSA. It's not due until March 2 for UCs, but it's due much sooner for privates, so that's why some people already got the fafsa out and received the Cal grant notification. (Of course, this is assuming the GPA verification has been turned in too.)

I got nothing. Sigh.

hmm..the max u can get from a Cal Grant is $8,300...and I think most Stanford people for Cal Grant A $7449 (I did)
for UCs...i got somewhere around $6000

whoa that's a lot, how many UCs did you apply to cardinal? I only applied to CAL so do you think that's why it was onl approximately 1,500?

i don't know how they determine it. but i applied to 4 UCs: UCLA, UCB, UCSD, UC Davis

but then again...i'm also not that rich so I think that's probably why I got so much for UCs

I received mine today. 1,551 also. this is crazy. my mother makes 12,000 and I have a 3.9 UC GPA. I really think I qualify for Cal Grant A.

Does anyone know the difference between CAl Grant A and B? they have some paragraph obscuring the difference, differentiating between low/middle income families and disadvantaged/low income families. That doesn't make sense. Plus, I can't even use this useless money for tuition.

ok, just noticed there was a back side to the sheet. apparantly one may be eligible for both grants, but they pick the grant for you, either A or B, depending which will "benefit you the most" HAH. i'd much rather get what cardinal got.

Cardinal, do you mind my asking what your reported income was? I'm wondering if I should make a call.

skybaker your numbers don't sound right....I would try to recheck it, maybe a decimal point is misplaced on your application.
