Cable television in Dorm?

Really, it’s not a bad thing to want cable. You don’t have to be literally attached to TV to want cable. It’s overpriced, yes, but if you can afford it then by all means go ahead. I have enjoyed having cable, I like to keep it on in the background (sound low/off) while I work. When I didn’t have cable filling the void due to a roommate I had to resort to watching, well more like listening, to old Disney DVDs I had brought which got old quickly during that semester. There are also lots of good movies to watch with friends in the evenings, while doing chores or cooking. I feel eerily out of the loop without cable since I don’t read the news online or receive a regular newspaper. I don’t like watching TV online though (since I like taking notes on my computer/doing HW in front of it) and my dorm only has one TV down by the laundry room which really isn’t conducive to my main uses for it. There’s a lot of down time spent in the room doing ho-hum time-consuming things and I love that I have my TV then.

And no worries, I don’t have issues with it impeding on my social life. In fact I rather use my single room with TV/games as a hub for laid back nights with buddies.

I agree with Nolette, I would want cable in my dorm as well for the same reasons. Just because we are addicted to certain shows doesn’t mean it would stop us from having a social life. I think $46.50 for cable is worth it especially since I’m paying $86 a month right now for directv, I just wished they had DVR.
