Hey Guys,

Okay, so barring the fact that I will be spending most of my time studying and won't have time for entertainment, I would like more information on the TV offerings at UCB (ResComp was so unhelpful). Specifically, do we get an HD signal? If not included is it possible to get an HD signal? Is our agreement with the company or with the school? So, can we have a PVR?

I'm in Clark Kerr by the way

ResComp cable does not provide HD cable, only SD cable.

If you have your own antenna, you can use it to pick up HD locals like I did. You can get a TiVo if you want, but you’ll have to pay for it. I assume it would work with the ResComp cable.

With all the options online, it’s slowly being phased out.

To be quite honest, though, with the bandwidth limits, you really don’t have much of an option when it comes to watching HD.

I don’t think ResComp will ever stop providing cable. While a lot of things are online legally, a ton more things aren’t.

Was it pretty easy to pick up the local HD’s?

CBS - easy (all three years)
Fox - easy (all three years)
ABC - easy (all three years, assuming your antenna is near the window)
NBC - hard frosh/soph years, easy jr year (NBC is the one Bay Area local channel that is emitted from San Jose as opposed to Oakland or SF, so digital signals had problems getting to Berkeley, it appears after the digital transition they fixed it)
CW - Never had anything worth watching, so I don’t know

cable is provided, HD is not, unless you do it yourself. if you live in clark kerr you can also watch it in the lounge, they have blue ray/flat screen tvs in the lounges. go watch with your floormates/building mates
