Gaddoc, when is decision day for the 2010's? Did that pass already? (thanks for this info)..

no it at the very beginning of this coming semester when everyone returns for the school year. Commitment Dinner, and I'm pretty sure the numbers will be dropping steadily until then.

AOG had the Commitment dinner on Aug. 6th

I am curious and lazy! (didn't pull out the calculator to do an analysis), but it seems that when I run the numbers in my head more women drop out than men.

It looks like @ 20% of the entering class are females, but only 17% graduate. So why would the ratio decrease? Again I did not use a calculator!

bulletandpima - how can you tell that?- You don't have the start numbers for each class - 2009-2011. You could be right though - but it's a non-issue.
IIRC - this year AFA admitted the highest number of women ever at 22%.

bulletandpima is right...the same number of women and men drop out over the four years, if not more men, but since there are less women to start with, it makes the percentage go down. I'm not sure of the reasons of women not making it here at the academy, but the one's who do stay are beyond capable to perform in the active air force. Some of the best cadets are women including 2008's number 1 overall cadet.

I hope not.

Class of 2011 AFA admitted 1266 of which 21% were women. So that would breakdown to 1000 men and 266 women.
Now there are 228 women left which is 20% of the wing. That so far is not really a significant difference.
The interesting stat is that 9% of males dropped out and 15% of females dropped out in the first year.
The problem is - the women's group is so much smaller than the male group any slight shift in the numbers would make the % vary a lot.
I am not a statistician but I think one would have to go back and analyze the past few years from start to finish and see what the trend is.

You can't tell by looking at a senior class of 17% women and a entering class of 22% women since the senior class did not enter with 22% women.

In any case, women and men probably have essentially the same reasons for leaving prior to graduation.

I believe '09 entered with about 19-20% women (closer to 20). My class was about 21%. More females drop out than males by ratio.

There are a multitude of reasons you could put out there for the greater loss by percentage and no single one will explain it all.

My head is spinning

believe it or not, 2010 actually now has more students than those numbers account for. We have had a good number of cadets who came back from missions from other classes to join 2010. I'm sure we will drop again significantly at the end of the summer because of our own missionaries and our non committers*

I dont understand, why did so many 09s and 10s drop out? I know its only like 5-10 cadets but to me that seems like a lot.

Academics, Honor, Athletics, trouble with the law; there are many reasons.

I thought US Code limited cadet wing strength to a max of 4,400?

US CODE: Title 10,9342. Cadets: appointment; numbers, territorial distribution

Dang, I cant believe they would blow it, if I get in Im not taking any chances.

Luigi - I think this is an 'oops' situation for appointments.

flyersboy - most don't, but life can happen.

Gen. Regni stated that the cadet wing is functioning over its authorized strength, IIRC.

that's because not enough of my class quit in Basic!!! Never Falter, Never Fail!!! lol

Not really relevant to this thread but I asked a while ago where the C/O 2012 motto came from and no one knew. Recently I saw a poster and it was a quote said by George W. Bush, "We will not tire, we will not falter, we will not fail."

Just a little random info for everyone! Can't say you didn't learn anything today!
