Cadet Wing Strenght 2009-2010

I’m with ya usafa10s… this next semester its definitely time to fall out and make corrections. Atleast in my squad

the biggest issue is with upperclassmen. they’re afraid to make corrections on freshmen or each other for that matter. when was the last time you saw a friend with hands in his pockets and said something? if we want to seriously talk about “making it harder” we need to start with upholding the standards we do have, beginning with the upperclassmen.

I definitely agree

If the upperclassmen aren’t sticking to the rules and pushing the 4-digs, one can hardly expect the 4-digs to make it harder on themselves.

And, I for one, REALLY feel that the women should be pushed as hard as the men, in everything. But, I’m just saying…

I don’t really see women being treated differently, but I suppose it depends on squadron.

Also: if we eliminate 300 of us, can I stay? Thanks.

edit: also, I’ve heard a good amount talking about not coming back to the Academy in my class. (How can you go this far and not push through to Recognition?)

PFT scores.

Also, there was a time (during my freshman year, I believe) when the list of the selected spring semester squad comms wasn’t approved for about a month. The Commandant refused to allow the position to go to so many white males. If I’m not mistaken, selections were revised to include some less-qualified, but different looking, candidates.

Recognition. That’s a loaded term!!! But yes, Packer, if you’ve lasted through BCT, through 4* year, at least hang on through recognition.

My guys are still living on the pride they gained through completing Recognition.

if its not where you want to spend the next 8.5 years of your life, then its better to leave now than stay for another semester. there’s nothing worse than cadets at USAFA who don’t want to be there.

and petko is more or less correct with his statement about squad comms a couple years ago. that was with a different comm tho

Are there a big number of cadets who quit after 3* year (before Commitment)? I would think that do-or-die time would cause a lot of young people to reconsider their options.

that is when you will likely see the biggest drop in each class. Some will actually take part in the summer assignments if they get good assignments so they won’t quit until just before commitment. others will quit as soon as they finish 3 dig year. Unfortunately there are some cadets who enter the USAFA knowing full well that they will not commit and just take advantage of the 2 free years of education

Everyone always says that it’s a big drop, and it well may be, but I don’t know a single person who left just prior to Commitment. In fact, I can only think of one guy who was even considering it, but he decided to stay.

Just my personal experience.

Looking at the data, it would seem the class of 2011 lost about the
same number of cadets after 4 dig year as after 3 dig year.

But there is a pretty good group of cadets that decided sometime between
the end of July and the end of August when the numbers are counted. Presumably
if they were there at the end of July, they must have dropped just prior to committment
as i can’t imagine they would commit and then drop.

Looking at the class of 2011

Apr 2008 - 1167
May 2008 - 1166
Jun 2008 - 1143
Jul 2008 - 1141
Aug 2008 - 1132

Apr 2009 - 1108
May 2009 - 1100
Jun 2009 - 1083
Jul 2009 - 1085
Aug 2009 - 1066

I wonder which two kids they forgot to count in Jun '09…

that is likely cadets coming back from mission trips or something like that. At least that would be my guess

correct. ppl come back during different periods of the summer, which changes official numbers.

and petko, i personally know3 people from your class who left because they didn’t want to commit.

CLASS STATISTICS (as of 31 MARCH 2010)

…Men…Women…Total
2010…830…187…1017
2011…845…210…1055
2012…919…259…1178
2013…1019…250…1269
WING…3613…906…4519

interesting… we’ve gained a person since prog… lol

but we’ll definitely commission and probably graduate below 1000. the foreign nationals don’t commission, i know several people who lost their commission-ability lately and may not even be allowed to graduate, and then there’s always the late-grad cadets for whatever reason.

How does one lose their commission-ability? Medical reasons?

the percentage of women in my class is insane! 28%!!!

huh?

2010: 18.4%
2011: 19.9%
2012: 22.0%
2013: 19.7%
WING: 20.0%

percentage of women is # women divided by total people, not divided by men.
