CAL Achievement Award Update

Anyone else get an update today?

:( I hope this isn't a sign of acceptance!!!

"Dear Applicant for The Achievement Award Program,

Thank you for applying for The Achievement Award Program Scholarship at UC Berkeley. We received approximately 2000 applications for 25 awards and it has been a very competitive selections process. Unfortunately, your application for The Achievement Award Program is no longer under consideration.

We wish you the best of luck in your college endeavors.

Best regards,

The Achievement Award Program Staff"

I hope I'm still in the running for the Cal Leadership Award!!

It sounds more like a rejection. Haha just kidding. I think if you were still considered it would sound more positive towards you’re admission.

Damn!! Lol. I decided to look at it this way. 1975 people are going to get the same email I received. . . Now way all 2000 of us are rejected. . . right? Hahah. I don’t want to start stressing over Cal. UCLA has me freaked enough!!

Who else was invited to apply, and did you get an update email?

I was invited. I didn’t bother to apply though.

Oh, why not? Free money!!

On the bottom of the email, it says if you applied, it does not affect your admission status in any way.

I applied to UC Berkeley just for fun and for the fact that “anything could happen”. In high school, I made a bad choice by not applying to many campuses. This time around, I applied to six campuses.

I’m aware that it doesn’t affect your status, but if you do get in then the scholarship can be VERY beneficial. I’m still a little hopeful about the other scholarship invite I took advantage of.

I know it would be very difficult for me to get the scholarship. I weighed the cost / benefit of doing so. Spending lots of time cranking out perfect essays and conveying stories about my non-existent community services in my college years were not appealing to me.

LOL!!! I used the same exact essays I wrote for my personal statement and for scholarships last year. I didn’t put much time into it because I had soooo much going on. That’s probably why I didn’t get the scholarship! Hahah, it’s okay though. I’m still waiting on the JKC scholarship and a few others.

My whole UC application was very similar to my high school application (statements , extracurriculars and awards). Only difference was the addition of the community college courses and grades. Recycle ftw.

I didn’t get this email. I hope that means I’m still in the running (for the scholarship).

I hope you are too!! Best of luck to you!!

Thank you. According to the Cal website, the next step once the finalists have been selected are the alumni interviews.

And it’s 25 awards for both freshmen and transfers combined, so it’s very competitive indeed.

The Leadership Award, though of a lesser amount, seems to select something like 600 winners, so you’re still in for that one.

I thought the leadership award apolication does not open until May 1st. (according to the email from the alumni)

^ Yes, that’s correct. I meant… the OP will be able to apply for that one, and the odds of getting it are much higher. :)

Oh, I think my friend from school got this or is a finalist or whatever. I didn’t realize there were so few people selected.

I haven’t revived that email either! I only applied for the achivement award because I actually had stuff to put down. The leadership award I had pretty much nothing to write. It looks like the leadership award chances are higher. I can dream right? Lol. Tbh I’d be happy just getting into UCB.

We’ll know in the next few days who gets that email or postcard for an interview with an alumni! Good luck to all.
