Cal Alumni Scholarship Invite

Has anyone else received this email?

yes. does anyone know if it’s worth applying? I heard that if you get a scholarship, your fafsa money goes down. so i really don’t see the point to applying to ANY scholarships…

not only received an email but also a call over the weekend.

What kind of stats do you guys have?

is this invite only sent to people with 4.0s?

Got an email as well. Overall GPA 3.62

I think it’s for people who get decent GPAs (above 3.5 perhaps?). I didn’t get the invite the last time I applied (lower GPA).

I got an invitation from Berkeley too, but the scholarship mentioned in the email is one for low-income students. So if you guys got the same one, perhaps it doesn’t have anything to do with GPA, but rather with financial need (though I do have a GPA higher than 3.5).

And someone posted this on the other thread, but my email has it too:

“Your receipt of this scholarship invitation does not in any way reflect on your application for admission to UC Berkeley. You are no more or less likely to be admitted to UC Berkeley because you have received this invitation, and your decision to apply or not apply for Cal Alumni Association scholarships will not affect your application status.”

Got the Cal alumni invite for the leadership (merit) award. 4.0 with leadership EC’s.

Got the achievement invite and the leadership invite. both scholarships

Funded through the generosity of Cal alumni and supporters, The Leadership Award is a one-year, merit-based scholarship providing INCOMING FRESHMEN students $2,000 as recognition of their past leadership and future potential. It is one of the most prestigious scholarship programs at UC Berkeley.

I am new to this stuff but since this a transfer thread I am assuming everyone here is not in freshmen standing. I could be wrong and be misinterpreting this but thats what it sounds like to me.

I think they send most people the freshmen one. Has anyone else received the achievement award email?

@hearty
If you still have unmet need after all your grants and scholarships, this will cover it. So it is beneficial to get it unless you already have a full ride to UCB.

That is kind of my point. If they do not take the time to ensure they send it to the appropriate incoming class, it is probably nothing more than a mass email sent to all applicants.

^Exactly this.

It’s an automatically generated email based on what you put on your application, and, as the disclaimer on that message explains, it doesn’t mean that the adcoms currently looking at your app, and want you in.

Yeah could possibly just be a mass email but for what it matter by GPA is 3.78 so…yeah. Don’t know if it’s worth applying? I’ll take a look into deeper later

It’s super short notice, the deadline is on February 24th.

No it’s not. That’s the Freshmen deadlin, transfer deadline is May 1.

Got the Leadership too. Freshman. 3.88 GPA solid ECs. Have to write three essays and list up to 5 ECs. Stats are modest I think:
1850 SAT- AP Spanish 5, AP World Hist 3, AP English Lt 3, SAT Spanish Lt Subject 780.
Have 3 college credits thru Pre-college program, journalism internship, board position with largest non-profit in our city, student rep with local government cultural arts commission and established an art for charity club raising money. So far $2400 for art programs.
List yours, please!

I have 3.95 GPA, but I did not receive the email about scholarship…what happened!!!
