just got an email telling me i’m a semifinalist.

does anybody know if that comes with any cash (like ucla?) or how many people are semifinalists, finalists, etc? unless the very unlikely event of an acceptance from stanford, it’s really down to ucla or cal for me and the major factor that had me leaning towards la was the $4000 scholarship for alumni from them (which with cal grants, etc, was a freeish ride). i also need to let ucla know if im attending for sure by the 10th so that i can move onto the state comps, so any info on the cal alumni scholarships would be appreciated!

Wait. When my UCLA alumni called me, she told me the LA alumni scholarship was $4,000 total, so $1,000 a year....and that's not doing a whole lot to lure me......is berkeley's more per year, or less?

i'm a semifinialist too!! which is weird cuz im only in for SPRING SEMESTER those f***ers. i swear all u have to do is be republican and write about it. pulls so hard.

I guess we wait and see if we advance on to become finalists. Then, we interview as finalists. Lastly, they decide from the people who interview who gets the scholarship.

I strongly suggest you give your best shot for the Alumni Scholarship. Scholarship money aside, there are lots of juicy benefits. I'm working with a committee to expand the discounts and benefits that come with being a Scholar. As of right now, we get 20% discounts at the Student Store and discounts at the local Kaplan. We're checking in with possibilities for food, etc.

More importantly, you get to network with alumni who are, ahem, financially endowed. hint hint
