Cal alumni scholarship

just got an email telling me i’m a semifinalist.

does anybody know if that comes with any cash (like ucla?) or how many people are semifinalists, finalists, etc? unless the very unlikely event of an acceptance from stanford, it’s really down to ucla or cal for me and the major factor that had me leaning towards la was the $4000 scholarship for alumni from them (which with cal grants, etc, was a freeish ride). i also need to let ucla know if im attending for sure by the 10th so that i can move onto the state comps, so any info on the cal alumni scholarships would be appreciated!

I just got an email also.

Wow, this is exciting =P

I don't know anything about the scholarship really, so I'm here waiting for responses as well.

I got the email too, no clue about how it actually works though

i got the email too :)

max is $1,500-2,000 per year i think, so your ucla scholarship would be more..

I'm a semifinalist too, which I think is strange considering that I only got admitted for the spring semester.

Me too man !

Wait. When my UCLA alumni called me, she told me the LA alumni scholarship was $4,000 total, so $1,000 a year....and that's not doing a whole lot to lure me......is berkeley's more per year, or less?

ohh, i was under the impression that the original poster meant $4,000 a year.

i double checked the cal website and the berkeley alumni scholarship is anywhere from $1000-$2500 per year

i'm a semifinalist too. also, i'm trying to choose btw cal and la. la gave me a lot more grant money. basically, they gave me about $6000 more.

i'm a semifinialist too!! which is weird cuz im only in for SPRING SEMESTER those f***ers. i swear all u have to do is be republican and write about it. pulls so hard.

i'm a semifinalist too!

yay congratulations everyone!

same here ... semifinalist =)

They sent me like 3 reminders, and I kept forgetting to do it. I suck.

iam a semifinalist as well

so what now?

same . . . 10 chars

I guess we wait and see if we advance on to become finalists. Then, we interview as finalists. Lastly, they decide from the people who interview who gets the scholarship.

i'm a semi finalist, too. but i'm about 75% sure that i might go to stanford, so do i tell them no?

Alumni Scholar checking in here...

I strongly suggest you give your best shot for the Alumni Scholarship. Scholarship money aside, there are lots of juicy benefits. I'm working with a committee to expand the discounts and benefits that come with being a Scholar. As of right now, we get 20% discounts at the Student Store and discounts at the local Kaplan. We're checking in with possibilities for food, etc.

More importantly, you get to network with alumni who are, ahem, financially endowed. hint hint
