Cal class size question

Hello,

I'm hoping to transfer to Cal as a junior from a community college. Is it safe to say that the majority of the giant classes that large state schools like Cal and UCLA are known for mostly occur at the freshman/sophomore level? I really have little knowledge in this area, but I would assume that the majority of the huge classes are general ed courses. I'm majoring in anthropology and have all my general ed courses completed. Any input would help! Thanks!

For anthro, the class sizes do not look too bad. It appears some have a limit of 80 students, but overall, not too bad.

Now psychology on the other hand…

Class size typically gets smaller at the junior and senior level (courses numbered 100-199), although some courses which are taken for popular majors and which are popular with non-majors are still quite large (e.g. Economics 100A and 100B, intermediate microeconomics and macroeconomics with less math).

You can look up class sizes here: [Home Page - Online Schedule Of Classes](http://schedule.berkeley.edu/)

For anthropology upper division courses in spring 2011: [UCB Online Schedule of Classes: Search Results](http://osoc.berkeley.edu/OSOC/osoc?y=6&p_term=SP&p_deptname=Anthropology&p_classif=U&p_presuf=--+Choose+a+Course+Prefix%2FSuffix+--&x=36)

It appears that two courses, 114 (History of Anthropological Thought) and 137 (Energy, Culture and Social Organization) are large (180 and 240 student limit, 171 and 219 actual enrollment), but most of the others are small.

Course descriptions are here: [General Catalog - Course Search](http://sis.berkeley.edu/catalog/gcc_search_menu)

Thank you both very much for the help!
