Hey, Im going to be a ccsf student. Is community college really that easy? So many people in this forums are getting above a 3.5. Is it really stressful for that gpa? Does it require full time studying at home? I am aiming for Cal as a Computer Science major for letters and science. Can anybody give me a heads up about city college and what should I plan for?

Most people here have 3.5+ GPAs because the majority here actually care about their education and what school they want to go to. It may seem like everyone in CC gets a good GPA just by the number of people on these forums, but that’s definitely not true.

Yes, you do need to work for that A, but it certainly doesn’t require full-time studying. It all comes down to time management. I would take a relatively light course load (12 units should be good) for your first semester just to get a feel of CC, then go up to 15 or 16 units the next semester. Do you plan on working or participating in ECs at all?

I dont know what to do. I co-own a massive multiplayer online game and lead the development team. Does that count for anything?

I’m sure it would count in terms of employment and would make you unique amongst your fellow classmates. However, GPA and strength of academic preparation are going to be more important.

The key to Community College classes is not to overload. Also, try and mix courses that satisfy IGETC and courses that are pre-reqs for the major. That way you’ve got classes that interest you and ones that keep you on track toward fulfilling your requirements. As jk_91 said, start light and then buildup, just make sure that your last semester is relatively light. Though I got through my last semester with a 4.0, I wish it hadn’t been as stressful. I had 4 classes to complete for IGETC and though I was never in all that much danger it added pressure at a time when all I wanted was to slack.

Oh well, how many classes should I take first, 4 classes 1st semester, 5 classes 2nd semester, a course in summer, then 5 classes next year, and 4 classes 2nd smeester? It wont add up to 60 units. Lol.

It obviously won’t add up to 60 units because you’re planning on transferring in two years, aren’t you? How many units are these classes you plan to take? Units are always more important than number of classes.

As for co-owning the online game, I guess it would count for employment and it would make an interesting thing to talk about in your essay.

Are classes even had and stressful? Like if I take 4 courses, will it be hard and stressful?

Depends what classes those are. If you’re taking like multivariable calculus, C++, bio, and English, then yes, that would be considered a tough course load because you need to devote a lot of time to each class of those classes.
