Cal EECS/material

Hey guys
I am applying to cal this month with a 4.0gpa, i am thinking applying as EECS major or the EECS/material science joint major. What is the difference in term of admitted rate for both majors? Is it possible to finish EECS/material science in two years?
Thanks in advance.

After transfer, whether you can finish in four semesters, or four semesters plus one or two summer sessions, depends on how complete your coverage of lower division courses at your CC is.

The EECS/MSE joint major looks something like this:
http://www.eecs.berkeley.edu/Programs/Notes/sample-curricula-MSEjoint.pdf

Note that the following lower division courses are included:

Engineering 7 *
Engineering 10 *
Engineering 45 *
EE 40
CS 61A
CS 61B
CS 61C or EE 20N **

Not needed for EECS without the MSE joint major.
** Both needed for EECS without the MSE joint major.

Note that most of these are difficult to find at CCs, although it is to your advantage to complete as many as you can before transfer. See [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) to see what you can take at your CC and other nearby CCs.

The College of Engineering has a humanities and social studies requirement:
http://coe.berkeley.edu/students/current-undergraduates/requirements/hum-ss-requirement/HSS%20NEW_10-24-13.pdf

It is to your advantage to complete, in addition to the equivalents of English R1A and R1B, two additional humanities and/or social studies courses in subjects that you may want to take upper division courses in, since you will need to take two upper division humanities and/or social studies courses after transfer, at least one of which is in the same department as one of your other humanities and/or social studies courses. If your CC offers any courses that fulfill the Berkeley American Cultures requirement (as listed on [Welcome to ASSIST](http://www.assist.org) ), including one of these may be helpful before transfer (otherwise, you need to have at least one of your post-transfer humanities and/or social studies courses be an American Cultures course.
