Cal Engineering Transfer Graduating in 3 Years?

Hi guys,

I just got in Berkeley College of Engineering for a joint major. I still have like 4 lower division classes to finish, so unless I take summer classes, graduating in 5 semesters means I will have to take a ton of units every semester. Does anyone know if it is possible to ask for a 6th semester at Cal?

You better start signing up for summer courses. UC Berkeley is probably the only UC that strictly enforces the rules on how long transfer students get to finish their degree program before their enrollment at UCB is terminated. Two years for most majors and two and half for engineering and physical science majors are allowed and they have not shown flexibility on this. You will have three summers between now and the termination or your enrollment so you should not have any difficulty in earning enough credits to get your degree just by taking one or two courses per summer.

What happens if they terminate my enrollment? Does it mean that I won’t get a degree?

Also I wonder why their website says financial aid will be available for 6 semesters. Does this not mean that at least one person has pulled this off before?

Well, you can still continue towards your degree after your allotted time, but through Berkeley Extension (which gives you lowest priority to register for classes) or unlimited summer sessions. Otherwise, you won’t be able to register during regular semesters as a Cal student.

I have no idea about finaid, but like Lemaitre said, WE’d better take summer courses, because I too, have 5 lower division prerequisites to take care of before declaring a CS major… sigh

nice. thanks man
