cal engineering

can a person go in as undeclared freshman year and eventually go in to the college of engineering, if so how?

Yes you definitely can. Of course it won't be easy, and the difficulty depends on the major within COE you want, but many are able to. You should attend the transferring to COE workshops.. you will get all the information and advice you need for transferring. Applications for transfers are due by February I believe, and you find out at the end of the year after they have reviewed your grades.

If it's not too late (as in, if this is for next year), apply as engineering undeclared.

Is it harder to go directly to engineering or go undeclared then engineering?

It's much harder to go undeclared engineering.

For applicants to Engineering, major choice is considered in selection; Engineering Undeclared is highly selective.

That being said, it is extremely competitive to transfer into the engineering school, as they not only focus on hs curriculum but more importantly how well you have done in college. Unfortunately, some people hurt their chances with the last factor, as they do not perform well during their first year.
