I was selected for verification as well. From what I’ve read, they’ll be sending something in the mail that I will need to submit back. I think it’s to verify that I’m really an INDEPENDENT student (will probably need to submit W2 or 2009 1040). I think they don’t mail the docs/forms to you until you submit the SIR.

I also need to show that I’m a citizen. There’s a link after the required documents checklist for the required form. I need to actually go to the FA office in person to show either a birth certificate, passport or naturalization certificate. I’ll probably do it when I go on the 15th.

We’ll probably get some information in the packets we receive. I’m going to give the fin aid office a call tomorrow and I’ll let you all know what I find out. We’re all pretty much in the same boat. Mine says I need to provide info but it doesn’t specify.

Anyone going in the spring? It looks like the revise my financial aid award in half since I can’t attend in the fall. sheesh

“Some students have been selected for the income verification process and are sent materials that must be returned before a final offer can be produced. Included in the verification packet is a form that must be filled out and returned with a federal tax return. This group of students will see “conditional awards” in MyFinAid. The verification packet will only be reviewed if the student has submitted their Statement of Intent to Register on My Berkeley Application. When the review is completed, the official awards will display in MyFinAid.”

Same! Like borntogrow, I also sent an email. I kinda have a feeling we’re going to get a mass response back telling us they made a mistake with our finaid or something. :)

I was selected for Verification. Happened to my brother last year. Every year, you have a 1 in 3 chance of being selected for verification. If you are selected, you have to provide detailed tax info, etc before they will confirm that you will get the fin-aid. If you are not selected, they just believe you and issue your FA.

It really sucks for me, cause my parents filed an extension on their taxes because their CPA is flaky, so they won’t have their taxes ready for a whillle

I didn’t have time to call today BUT i got an email telling me that I need to submit some doc’s and when I went to go look at the documents I found nothing.

UCSD just received my FAFSA two days ago and i submitted it back in February, so Im guessing that CAL hasn’t received my fafsa yet or they might have just receive it or something. I will call soon though because I gotta figure this out before I go crazy.

If you have a “no offer no FAFSA” message and you are SURE you submitted a FAFSA to UC Berkeley first call the Fed aid people at 1-800-433-3243 and they will confirm that everything is correct and processed and give you any info you might need to share with UCB. THEN you call the UCB Fin Aid office between 10 and 3 at 510-642-6442. Explain that you submitted a FAFSA and have already contacted the Federal people who confirmed everything is okay. They will take your info and manually download the FAFSA and should have a package for you within a week.

Hello everyone I had the same problem I emailed Rachel of financial aid office and this is what was said:

Hello my name is Melanie Cuesta and I was recently accepted into Berkeley. It was stated on the page that the university did not receive my fasfa. I checked all possible problems as suggested [checking if berkeley was included in my list, my ssn was correct]… and all my info is correct. Im not exactly sure where the problem is because i have received financial aid quotes from all the other UCs and I have not had a problem with any of them. im really hoping to fix this problem soon because i want to see if im eligible for financial aid here at berkeley as well because i have yet to make a choice on my school. a reason why is because im comparing the costs so if you can help me fix this it would be great!

Thank you.

Melanie,

We launched a new financial aid system this year and not all FAFSAs automatically linked up with the respective financial aid application. Therefore, to expedite the process, please call our office at 510-642-6442 and provide the person who answers both your UC Berkeley SID number (the actual number rather than anything else you may have changed it to) and your Social Security Number. Unfortunately, I cannot take SSNs over email as we cannot guarantee the security of that communication.

That information will be delivered to me, and within one day I will have your data matched up and a package determined.

You got an offer that fast? I talked to the finaid advisor on Monday and she told me within a week and I still have no package . . .
kind of frustrating since I am relying on financial aid!

I did! On Monday! I waited forever and then talked to someone who said she would take care of it . . . ugh . . . @koreanbbq so you’ve already gotten your offer? How long did it take after you talked to the fin aid office?

It still says I’m missing documents but when I go to the documents their is nothing to fill out…I also haven’t receive my cal grant. Does anyone else have the same issue and did you get it resolved yet?

After several emails with the fao today, we established that the reason mine isn’t getting processed in unique. Oh well. All I can do it wait.
Good luck to everyone else!
