Cal Financial Aid

if you have checked your financial aid award, was your total amount (meaning loans + grants total) around 20 thousand or 25 thousand?

Because, this information represents whether or not you were considered for on campus housing (25) or off-campus (20).

Everyone should check immediately and post this information!

is everyone here rich or something? so thats why no one posts about finaid?

I haven't gotten any fin aid info yet. Still waiting for them to send me a verification form to fill out. They don't believe just how po' I is.

why dont you check the award on cal bears? thats what i did

We're sorry, you do not have an offer of financial aid at this time.

Like I said.

I have about 10k in grant, got the scholarship thing.

I turned in my FAFSA a few months ago.

do you think the $5000 difference comes from loan?
UCLA is offering me $1800 more than UCB. And it offers me more workstudy hours. Do you guys think I should go to UCLA?

how much did both of you guys get total? 20 or 25 thousand?

m_lp...
I'm in the same boat as you...I called them and they said that everyone entering Cal who applied for F/A who has a family (kid(s)) must send in special documentation that they send out. I'm waiting on the docs so I can hurry up and send them back...they said that student parents who qual for f/a also rceive an additional $6k grant on top of the f/a award so I guess it's worth the wait.

Good info, luvtoolearn. Thanks. :)

Im actually kinda worried about finaid, because i feel like im the only one who got offered the off-campus financial aid offer, but no one wants to confirm or disprove my theory!

mojo...under my status section on bearfacts...it has financial need as $19,000...but that might be because they already know that I will not be living on campus since I have a family. M_lp is in the same situation. Your actually in a better situation because you already have your award letter. We have to wait to fill out additional info/docs before we even get an award letter so I think your ok. Have you tried calling the F/A office and asking about adjusting your F/A?

I got the off-campus F/A package too mojo.
Fall offer:
Fed. Dir. Loan : $2750
Work Study Eligibility: $1307
FED SEOG: $250
Federal Pell Grant: $21555
University Fee Grant: $218
Berkeley UG Scholarship: $3431

The spring offer is the same.
mojo, do you know that this means we can't live on campus because of the off-campus F/A package? Can we still apply for Cal housing? I'm kinda confused.

Is University Village is considered "off campus"? I put it as "on campus" on my FAFSA.

luvtoolearn, i may have the financial aid award letter, but if i do end up with on campus housing, then i would have to appeal the financial aid offer for more money (5 gs extra) and that could take a few more weeks kinda like how you are waiting right now lol... also, i dont know what those 5 gs will be made up of, grants? loans? i am not sure

passionate, thanks for posting the financial aid package.
We could still apply for housing, but the thing is that later we will have to file a separate sheet to change our financial aid information for on-campus housing. We need document proof that we signed a contract with the housing services, and after that contract is sent to us by email, then we could file the form (The contract supposedly comes around late june, which sucks because now we cant compare financial aid offers!). However, it will take like 2-3 weeks or something until we get a new financial aid offer.

Anyone else get 20 thousand? please post! or if you arent sure, just post the offer you got...

PS. i put on-campus for housing too; i dont know why i am off-campus..

PS. Passionate, do u have an efc of 0? our financial aid package is identical.

Federal Pell Grant: $21555 omg

wow

I only get $200 pell grant
lol

I think that the 21555 was a mistake, its supposed to be 2155

yeah it's a mistyping. Thanks for pointing that out. Only $2155
mojo. I have efc = 0 too.
Darn, that means our F/A will go down if we have on-campus housing right? What are you going to do? I think I'm coming to the reception and ask them about this.
