Cal Grant A or B?

I was just looking through my Cal Grant notification letter, and I noticed that although I qualify for both the A and the B grants, they have me down for the B grant. They also said something to the effect of "we chose the best grant for you in the long run". However, I read in their brochure that the A grant is worth up to $5,684 a year (this is for UCs, its over 8k for private schools), while the B grant is worth up to $1,511 a year. But I also saw something that said the B grant consists of an access costs grant, and in some cases a tition/fee award as well. I'm guessing this is what makes it worth more than the A grant, but what does this mean exactly?

I believe the B grant is $1551 the first year and much more thereafter, so totally more over four years

Ok thanks a lot, I will go with the B grant. I still don't understand the reasons behind that though, because the A grant requires a 3.0 GPA while the B grant only requires a 2.0 GPA. Shouldn't the one thats harder to get give you more money?

You can read about it on teh UC websites, one of them says they go with B over the long term, I think it means the state pays the money instead of the school! So for a UC it makes more of your fin aid come from teh Cal grant budget rather than theirs!
