Cal Grant Awards Are OUT

Mine is still pending and it shows my CC as the school I’ll be attending, although on FAFSA, I didn’t even list my CC. Wahhh, what? :/

Edit: It also says I should only change my school attendance AFTER I’ve received my award offer? I just don’t know if I should wait, because at my CC, I went over the 90 unit cap, so I was getting e-mails about them cutting off my financial aid. I don’t want them to not give me a cal grant, 'cause they think I’ll be attending that CC. i don’t know if any of this makes sense lmao. :|

^ I’m having the exact same problem, but mine also says pending cal grant renewal. Anyone else?

In the Transfer Entitlement Certification, #7 says:

“Name of the college(s) you expect to attend during the 2012-13 school year. (Please be sure to thoroughly search for your college in the dropdown list. All Cal Grant eligible colleges are listed).”

I’ve been accepted to UC Irvine and need to submit my SIR by June 1st, but I am still waiting to hear back from USC (which will probably be in July, way past the 30-day mark to submit this certification form). If I am accepted to USC and I get enough financial aid, I will definitely be attending USC and withdraw my SIR from UCI.

With that said, does anyone know if I should put both UCI and USC since there are two slots? Or should I just put UCI in the meantime, and submit a school change on the Cal Grant site later if I get into USC?

@northbeach- Yeah, I’m going to go ask my CCC about it before I do anything. The issue is I’m having to prove my residency to the UC’s, so if they don’t qualify me as as resident…no B&G for me! I’m still waiting to hear back on it. I wouldn’t qualify for Chafee because I was in guardianship outside the state of CA. Ahhhhh well.

@kMz- I suppose you could put two down, maybe thats why the have the additional slot. Or you could submit a change of school later on. You could always email them and wait for a response until you do anything, but I’m sure you’d be fine either way.

@kingdom
you have had to deal with way too much stress these past two months. i am really feeling for ya.

@kmz did you check the box at # 2?

you’re supposed to i think

2- “Mark this box if you were a California resident at the time of high school graduation or completion of your GED, but graduated from a high school or completed your GED outside of California due to you or your parent or guardian’s military orders from the United States Armed Forces. If you graduated from a California high school or completed your GED in the State of California, leave this box empty”

Its not that difficult guys. All its saying is that if you graduated/received your GED outside of CA due to military reasons, then you check the box. If not, you leave it blank. Which means, MOST of you should leave it blank.

@northbeach- Haha, thanks. Life loves to throw its curveballs at me! Today I tried to talk to Financial Aid at my CCC about this thing, and go figure that the woman who deals with the CalGrants had surgery yesterday and wont be back for weeks. Oh, and CSAC wont answer the phone/return my email. ■■■.

kingdom why are you hesitant? just say you graduated in ca and get it over with. being honest in this situation is going to benefit you how?

@philo- Today when I talked to the girl at the front office of my CCC, I was told that if what you reported in your FAFSA doesn’t match up with what you say on this form, that they can request you prove your answers: I.E., they would request a CA HS diploma and obviously see I lied. After coming this far, I really don’t want to do anything that could jeopardize transferring this fall. I’m keeping my fingers crossed for residency at UCSC, in which case I would receive the B&G grant and the calgrant wouldn’t matter anyways.

Have they only awarded Cal Grant B recipients? Because, I got Cal Grant A last year as a senior in high school, and my renewal status is still pending.

does cal grant stack with school grants? Since my fi aid package came before calgrant is actually out.

like

fafsa 4k
ucla grant 12k
calgrant 12k?

or calgrant and ucla grant are the same?

ferrari, we have yet to see how the ucla grants (blue and gold) and cal grants combine. with calgrant maybe you will get more money than before, but probably not the entire 12k from the ucla grant. anyway, let us know when they update your financial aid offer letter.

the calgrant money is really vital for kids who are not attending UC schools, because other schools do not have blue and gold. congrats on getting accepted to ucla.

wth. why does it say “School of Attendance: University of CA-San Diego” when I SIR’ed to UCLA?

@seanoh you go to smc? i think were in same class together

You probably SIRd to UCSD too? Call UCSD

I was offered cal award B, though i qualified for A. however - i might not transfer. Hmmm.

@ north
I know, even my cc’s financial aid office didn’t know about it!

I also contacted the UCs, and apparently it won’t make any difference 1 way or the other as Berkeley said they didn’t account for it in the gift aid package and even if we get it, they’ll reduced their own money so it’ll end up pretty much the same & Ucla’s FA officer said even if I got disqualified for cal grant, other grants will replace it and my net cost won’t change

Cal grant renewals won’t be updated until june guys

@SH2mathecon
yeah, we are soooooooo lucky that we are going to a UC. because we do not have to worry about calgrants because we get blue and gold.
