hey guys i just transferred to UCLA last year and i qualified for the cal grant, and i just found out i don't qualify for a renewal for my senior year. i'm the only one in my family going to college, i'm an only child, and my parents make about 40k a year combined and it hasn't changed from last year, so do you guys have any idea why i wouldn't qualify for a renewal? i'm going to go to the fin aid office next week to see if i can get an explanation, but i was wondering in the mean time if any of you have had a similar problem.

You probably passed the income threshold for cal grant B and they’re going to move you to cal grant A

hey man, the same thing happened to me. I qualified for the cal grant last year and nothing has changed much this year–my parents still make under 80K–and it says I am not eligible for any Cal Grant this year. Im going to contact the FA office tomorrow and ill let you guys know what’s goin on.

If your parents are making under 80k, then you will receive Blue & Gold regardless so why does it matter if your grant is a Cal Grant or some kind of University Grant?

More less fortunate people applying this year/terrible state economy = shift in Cal Grant recipients.

My family income is even less than 40,000 and I didn’t get the Cal Grant at all junior year nor am I getting it my senior year. Because the FA office realizes that the funds for the Cal Grant are extremely limited, they offer us a University grant with the same amount we would have recieved from the Cal Grant.

Yeah. Besides, Cal Grants aren’t given out solely on a basis of income. They’re a point system based on a number of factors. The specifics are in another thread. I have a family income of $0 and I didn’t receive one either because I have too many points in other areas.

Egads. The July updates are already out? Mine’s still pending. @#*% I’m going to have to call them like 100 times monday to get a hold of them I guess :(

let us know what you find out after you contact the FA office

Just talked to Cal Grants customer service about changing school for my S. Wasn’t possible. Have to wait until all grants awarded. She said around mid July. My S award was renewed but have to be changed from community college to UC Berkeley. By the way, better call early. At eight.

Sorry, I have to add. When I called in the morning I was told that it is not possible to change the school. She was wrong. We did it today as soon the maintenance message disappeared.
