I've been dealing with this hold for over a month now, and I've truly hit walls everywhere. So basically on my Cal Grant account it says that I need to have a "Transfer Entitlement Institutional Verification due to assembly bill 840", and that to submit this verification I have to "consult with the financial aid office of the school currently on file"(CSU Long Beach for me). I did that a couple weeks ago, and the man in the financial office has never even heard of this verification before, nor did the other officers. They tried going over my financial aid files online, and there was no comment in my account whatsoever, nor were there any actions required. I wrote to the California Student Aid Commission and they just said to visit my financial aid office again, which I did, but still nothing. The hold can only be released by a school official upon this verification, according to Cal Grant. What should I do?

Print out copies of all the screens in this message that you got, and the links. Take them to your college, and have another meeting with the Fin Aid people. That way they will be able to see exactly what the message is, and they should be able to track everything down. If they can’t, sit there with them while they call the Cal Grant office to get the details.

Could this be the new bill that Governor signed saying that Cal grants cannot be used for private colleges or universities any more? maybe that is what they have to verify? where you are attending. Its a new law passed in June maybe FA office dont have an official policy on it yet

I believe the new bill just reduces the amount of Cal Grants available for private schools. It doesn’t eliminate them entirely.

In any event, CSU Long Beach is a state school.

Went to financial aid office again, brought print out copies of everything, even the Assembly Bill 840 just in case they’ve never heard of it. The officer who helped me had the most confused look on his face while reading about the transfer entitlement verification But still he told me that because there is no comment in the actions required section on my financial aid account in school, he can’t do anything… I think I might never see that grant disbursed

Did you do this?

And if that doesn’t work, ask to speak with a more senior financial aid officer.
