Cal Grant Disqualified?!

I just got an email saying

The California Student Aid Commission (Commission) has reviewed information from your FAFSA and GPA and determined that you will not be awarded a Cal Grant Entitlement award. For an explanation of your disqualification, please go to the WebGrants for Student (WGS) website located at www.webgrants4students.org. You can also download the "Disqualification Fact Sheet" from the WGS home portal which explains the reasons for disqualification.

So does that mean I'm not getting any money for college?! What do I do now? I have the FAFSA on file. I thought everyone was going to get some money.. What Now?

* I thought everyone was going to get some money… What Now? *

???

Why would you think EVERYONE was going to get money? Grants are based on family finances…obviously, everyone is not going to get money.

What was your EFC? What is your family income?

You don’t get Cal Grant but you may be able to get loan, workstudy,… from the Federal Government.

Your financial aid package will come from the colleges with your offer of admittance. If you were eligible for a Cal Grant, then that will be listed on the package along with any other offers of grants, loans, and work study. If you sign on to the cal grant website, you can see why you are ‘disqualified’ - probably too high an income or assets. You can also look at their website to see the eligibility requirements. This rejection doesn’t mean you won’t get any aid - just none from that one program.

We got the same email today. We figured though, that our assets would probably put us over the edge, since we have been saving for college.

The website is hard to navigate, that’s for sure, to figure out exactly what it means. To find the Disqualification Sheet, or whatever they call it, you have to search around the site.

It just means that you don’t qualify for this grant, but you may still get other types of grants and loans from the school.

Did you apply to uc schools. What is your efc. You may not get anything but a small loan from a uc if you’re not lowish income.

Also got this email on non-award,:frowning: we were given reason of financially ineligible…(though we are below the income ceilings posted on the Cal Grant web site)???
What is the difference between an Entitlement Award and a Competitive Award?
What is the point system applied in the Award Selection Process?
CSAC brochure says “You’re guaranteed to receive a Cal Grant award if you meet the eligibility requirements and have financial need.”
will have to wait and call on Tuesday…
