So… about a week ago, I got an email from The California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) to complete the “E2 Transfer Entitlement” questions/form. I completed them as soon as I can and double checked to make sure I have answered all the questions correctly and truthfully, but today when I checked the status, it turns out I wasn’t awarded anything… neither Cal Grant A nor B. There was a “Reason” button… I clicked it, but they were empty.
I don’t know what to do. All else considered, my GPA, FAFSA, transferring this fall, I thought I am definitely eligible for these grants. How do I find out what happened here, and why I was not granted anything? Do I email them? Also, there is an appeal option. Is appealing the right option for my situation?
Great, I tried submitting an appeal, but the submit button turns to “Loading…” and freezes… so, I just emailed them instead.
Did anyone else not get awarded anything despite being eligible?
@johndoe717 I’m in the same situation and got the denied Cal grant despite being eligible. I tried to email them to inquire about it and got back “If CSAC currently has all the elements necessary for you to be considered for a Cal Grant award for 2019-2020. You will be notified by email if you are awarded a Cal Grant. Even though a student may be eligible for Grant, it is not a guarantee that they will receive one”. This to me kinda means if you’re S.O.L. then… oh wells. It is what it is unfortunately.
Their appeal button is currently not working. You need to email
Mine said the same thing. I figured that was it, no offer. But, today I received an email saying I could be eligible and they want me to sign in and answer a few questions. My page on csac says pending and shows a substantial estimated amount I might get. Don’t lose hope.
@jaescott Yeah, I also got the email today telling me I am eligible and to fill out the G-6 Transfer Entitlement form again. It’s pending for me as well, hopefully it processes successfully this time. I wish the same for you as well.
To anyone curious by any chance, I know the exact reason why I was temporarily disqualified. When they asked me to fill out the G-6 Transfer Entitlement Form the first time, they had an outdated one (2019-2020) posted for the 2020-2021 section. So, they were asking me about what college I attended in the academic year 2018-2019, and where I might be attending/transferring to in the academic year 2019-2020. Since I am transferring in FALL 2020, I haven’t attended anywhere else besides my community college during both of those years in question, so I just put my college in. Of course, the question for 2019-2020 was asking me where I might be TRANSFERRING to. They wanted to know that I am transferring to a 4 year university. I understood that. I could have taken the hint and put a UC in there, but I did not want to risk it because technically that will be an untrue answer. Yeah. A week later, boom, disqualified… for answering questions truthfully, and because of an error on their part.
TL;DR They disqualified me because of the mistake THEY made.
It seems they finally realized it, and reopened the form today.
My advice for anyone with cal grant related questions or issues is to call and speak to an actual person. If that person seems to be unsure with their answers call back for someone else. I’ve had different answers in the last week as to why my award is awaiting processing for Fall 2020, finally got the right information, had to request a leave of absence plus send in a form I was never made aware they needed and now have to sit waiting for renewals to process in July. Months after decisions come out which means the grant will not be included in any initial CA school aid packages…but apparently thats how it works in my case. Good luck
@SatanFlower69 Agreed. I called the student services representative to verify the reasons for my disqualifications. I dislike calling, so I was hesitant at first, but regarding Cal Grant, calling is the best option.
Anyway, that is an unfortunate situation to be in… In the worst case scenario, I heard somewhere that if you don’t get any or not much Cal Grant, some UC’s can supersede that with their own grant (UC Grant I believe). I could be wrong, though. Wish you the best.
I wasn’t awarded either despite meeting all the requirements. I ended up calling them and spoke with someone who said I filled out something incorrectly. The rep emailed a transfer entitlement form to fill out and return back to them.
A few days went by and I received an email to fill out the entitlement form once again via the website. My status has since switched to pending.
@PhoenixWolf Yeah, that’s exactly my situation. It switched back to “pending” so that we can fill out the forms again which I did right away, but today, I just checked WebGrant and it again says “Not Awarded.”
I am debating on whether to call them AGAIN and ask them what the hell is going on, or wait this out until all the decisions have come out, that way I can tell them that I am DEFINITELY transferring to A UC, so there is absolutely no reason for me to be disqualified.
