Cal grant now what?

So now that my GPA verification has been submitted what do I need to do? Do I need to change the school listed on web grants as my school of attendance? It only says Berkeley is that ok? Any advice on next steps is awesome.

You sit and wait within the next few days to a month it will let you know on the web grants site if you were awarded a Cal Grant based not only on GPA but other things as well.

Yeah it’s fine that it says only UCB it just shows the first school you put on your FAFSA but wherever you SIR to thats where they’ll send it if you’re awarded. Each school is notified if you have been awarded a Cal Grant and will include that in their financial aid package for you.

No, don’t change the school listed as your school of attendance on the cal grant/web grant website. I know that it says that your school of attendance is UC Berkeley when it’s really not, but don’t change it to your CC. I say this because someone else did this last year and stated on this forum that they didn’t receive a cal grant because you’re supposed to have UC or a CSU(UC Berkeley in your case) as your school of attendance. Stupid rule, but whatever.

So, to sum it up: You’re done with the cal grant process. Your school of attendance is stated as UC Berkeley even though it’s not, but that’s OK. Don’t change it to the community college that you actually attend. You’re good to go and now you just need to wait for those admissions decisions to be released in March~April. I hope you get in to Berkeley or whatever school is your #1 choice.

My daughter checked her Cal Grant status and her school is still listed as her CC, should she change it to a UC?

Actually she said she tried to change it but it would not let her, She put all the US’c she applied to on her FAFSA. Should this affect her ability to be awarded a Cal Grant. Her status shows “pending”.

Wait, does a verification have to be sent if you are just going to renew?
I was under the impression that if you had already applied to CalGrant that there was no need to continually send a verification form…

@Sockhermom - You should be able to submit a school change after Cal grants have been awarded.

@Anthroflo - You just need to submit a school change when possible, also GPA verification is usually done now automatically by your CCC, not that it’s needed if you are just activating a previously awarded Cal Grant.

@Sockhermom

You can change the school of attendance in another way by correcting your FAFSA; the list of schools that your daughter put on her FAFSA should have a UC as the first school on the list(preferably, in my opinion, the UC she thinks she’ll get in to and/or the one she wants to go to the most). The cal grant website will change the school of attendance in about a day or two after editing the FAFSA.

Do you guys think it is better to wait to submit a school change until you have already gotten acceptance letters or SRI? Though that won’t be for a while but still…

That depends does it list your CCC as your school of attendance? If yes then yes do it as soon as you can, if it lists a 4 year school as your school of attendance then you can wait until you Sir.

It is my CCC…
if I change the school can I change it again, once I know where I’ve been accepted.

Yes

So… let me get this straight… if your Cal Grant status for 2014-2015 has your CC in it, you should change it to the school that you want to/realistically would get into?

I put UCI and UCSD on my FAFSA school selection before my current CC and yet it still shows my CC as my college of attendance in my 2014-2015 Cal Grant status.

I just submitted my FAFSA and didnt add my ccc to the list of schools; now I’m worried that I’m not eligible for Cal Grant since my ccc wouldn’t be able to send the GPA verification to csac. My fafsa is processing now so I’m unable to make any changes at the moment, anyone know the best course of action? I’m planning to go to the FA office ASAP on Monday and ask someone to fill out the GPA form since it could still be postmarked on Monday.

@smltk1505h

It would appear so.

@smltk1505h - As long as you change it to one of the 4 years you applied to it will get the rest of the information (schools possible) from your FAFSA, but if a CCC is listed it will automatically cause a problem with the FAFSA the system will think oh he’s going to a CC so he can’t/won’t be using this this year and so on and so forth.

Bottom line don’t risk it, just change it when you can

@oongaboonga - Your CCC should NOT be on the list of schools if you would like to get a Cal Grant in the 2014-15 year and are planning on transferring to a 4 year school.

GPA verification is required though so try to get that done ASAP, it should’ve been done awhile ago though, CCC’s usually do it automatically so double check your Cal Grant page and see if it’s already been submitted

K you guys, I’m gonna change it, thanks.

So is it bad to list a community college at all on your fafsa? It’s not at the top, that would be Berkeley, but it is on the list as it was needed to be considered for transfer scholarships at my community college?

I honestly have no answer for that.

If you believe that continuing for another year in CC is a genuine option for you then yes, but if you are 100% sure you’re leaving (like if you fulfilled a TAG or applied to a school you are very sure you’ll be accepted to) then I wouldn’t even list it on there because it could be interpreted incorrectly.

@TheUnderdog1

You can keep it on your FAFSA if you like. Just don’t have it at the top. I know it sounds stupid, but someone who didn’t do this was screwed out of a cal grant because they had their CC as their first school on the FAFSA and the CSAC told them that they needed to put a UC at the top to get the cal grant.

That person later ended up getting a “UC grant” that made up entirely for their cal grant, but it’s probably not a guarantee that you’ll get this UC grant at the UC that you decide to attend after getting accepted, so I’m just trying to save you guys trouble by telling you this now.
