I am worried about my Cal Grant. I submitted by FAFSA back in January, but I accidentally did not add UC Schools. I only submitted with my California Community College listed.

I realized this today, and I changed it. So I "submitted" before the March 2 deadline, but it was to a CCC and not to a UC.

Will I still be eligible for Cal Grant? My understanding is that the grant is administered by the state, and I have applied for funding by the stat in time, but I did not list a UC school.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!!!

I would seriously suggest contacting the Cal Grant people and the FAFSA people. You needed to list all schools that you were planning on potentially applying to. I highly doubt there will be no repercussions for your (lack of) actions.

I believe as long as you filled out your FAFSA and reported one California school (CCC or UC) you’re okay; you are able to change your school payee once you know where you are going. However, the UCs may not include this as part of your financial aid, which may change what they offer you once you apply CalGrant funds to fees, although all UCs (from what I understand) have access to your California aid report regardless of whether you list them on FAFSA, as they want state $$.

Thanks to both of you. I definitely plan on calling my school’s financial aid office (and the Commission) on Monday.

@zimzam, I hope you are correct. I have found other threads where people say “oh, adding schools after the fact doesn’t matter, even as late as July,” but I am concerned about the CCC vs. UC distinction.

The Cal Grant website is really serious about the March 2nd deadline. My big hope is that because they DO have my application in the system before the deadline, they will be open to a school change request. Also, I see that they allow appeals, and those are for decisions rendered in May. So if they still are making some calculations/decisions, maybe I have a chance to get things corrected before it’s too late.

Going to try not to worry about this over the weekend. :-)
