Hoping for some help from California folks. My son is in his second year at community college on the California promise program so it has been completely free. We have always filed FAFSA each year.
This fall he will be transferring to UC Davis (TAG approved in Sep 2021). We filed FAFSA on 11/7/21 and when I log into his CSAC account under Cal Grant, it does show FAFSA and that 11/7/21 date, but no other info is showing (all the other fields such as AGI, number in college, EFC, etc. are all blank). The system says to wait 10 days for everything to sync up, but it’s been two months. Who should we contact? CSAC or FAFSA?
And then, we know his GPA Verification needs to be sent in by his cc by the March 2nd deadline. Last year, they didn’t send it in until August. It wasn’t critical last year because his cc is already free, but this year we need it sent in. We do believe we will qualify for at last the middle class scholarship and possibly Cal Grant A, so I want to make sure everything is in place by the deadlines. My son has emailed his cc to make sure they will submit the GPA Verification by March 2nd and I guess we’ll just keep checking until it shows up.
Any insights on the missing FAFSA info would be helpful - thanks!
What a lot of parents need to remember, at this time, is that the deadline for Cal grants is in March. Students are still applying to a number of universities, such that the Cal Grant office is slowly receiving FAFSA information from throughout the State. Please make sure that your child has set up a Web grant student account.
From the Website:
“All students should create a WebGrants 4 Students (WG4S) Account
Students should create a WG4S account to monitor and manage their state awarded financial aid.
After a student’s FAFSA or CA Dream Act Application is processed, they will receive an email from CSAC letting them know it’s time to create their WebGrants 4 Students account. WebGrants 4 Students (WG4S) will let students check the status of their state grants, and take necessary steps to secure their aid. It’s important to note that a student’s WG4S account does not replace their school or FAFSA accounts and they may need more than one account to successfully apply for financial aid.
Stay up-to-date on deadlines and requirements by reading all correspondence from CSAC, FAFSA and your school of attendance.”
The CalGrant office has been really easy to work with; that has been my experience from many years ago and from former and current students.
Keep this fact sheet, in hand, for your son when you have a question about his Cal Grant.https://www.csac.ca.gov/sites/main/files/file-attachments/understanding_my_cal_grant_-_updated_11.21.17.pdf
They are really good about answering questions whenever you contact them. They get really busy as the March 2 deadline gets closer. They are unavailable over the holidays. Good luck!
