So I have had my Cal Grant A as CCReserve, and I am transferring to a 4 Year U. this coming semester. I filed my FAFSA late, but I have gone through the whole CalGrants site and there is no instruction or document that states that renewal students are subject to this deadline. Is it possible that my CalGrant can be renewed? Can the 4 year university deny my award because of this even, though the commission has renewed the grant? I'm not sure which school I will be attending (UCSB or UCI). Again I have gone twenty times through the renewal requirements/eligibility and it just says that the FAFSA needs to be submitted but no deadlines as oppossed to new applicants where it does say March 2nd. THANKS!

The Cal Grant A and B deadline for the FAFSA is March 2nd for Cal Grant applicants. [California Student Aid Commission - What deadlines should I mark on my calendar?](Key Dates - California Student Aid Commission) . There is no distinction made in terms of deadlines between new or renewal. There is a secondary deadline of September 2nd for a very few community college grants, but that only applies to students who plan to attend community college that year - you are planning a transfer.

The university has no say in whether you do or do not receive a Cal Grant - only the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC) makes that determination. Does your Web Grants for Students account <a href=“CSAC - Student Landing Home”>CSAC - Student Landing Home; indicate that you have been awarded a Cal Grant for the coming school year?

You can attempt to contact CSAC and appeal, but in my experience they are inflexible with deadlines. Good luck, and let us know if you discover a late-FAFSA appeal process with the CSAC.

It says pending for renewal. And checks for both things. I was awarded for it a couple of years and it says its on reserve and that once I transfer I will be etting that award for my first year in the four year institution.

Are you choosing 2013-2014 or 2012-2013? If you are choosing 2013-2014 and have green checks by both FAFSA and GPA, maybe you will be okay. Keep checking it - if it goes from “pending” to awarded, that would be very good. If it goes to “not awarded” it will give the reason, which may be late FAFSA. In that case you could attempt an appeal. Be sure to update to let us know, and what date did you actually file the FAFSA?
