So is it a bad thing if under "School Choice" in the Cal Grant it has my current cc listed? I've been hearing a lot of people say that for them it has one of the UCs they are applying to listed there, and I'm wondering if I should try to get mine change to one of the UCs. Thanks.

Yea it’s bad change it ASAP

I don’t even think you can change it. When I try, it says this

And then after clicking the “future school/housing change”, it says this

1) Change it in your FAFSA (pick a UC/CSU of your top choice as the first schools and your CC as last)
2) I called into Cal Grants and they said we can change our schools in around June for renewals and May for first timers.

These Cal Grant threads have got to stop. There’s too many with the same questions.

People keep saying that the school order in the FAFSA matters but my CC was never in the top and yet it still shows up on the Cal Grant.

^ Then refer to number 2. You can change the schools after June. Kind of the same thing as said in the other cal grant threads.

Okay. I don’t recall people saying that in any of the other Cal grant threads but thanks anyways. Because of the way other posters would urge you to change your school, I was under the assumption there was some hidden way people have been using to change the thing.

Wouldn’t June be too late to affect financial aid though, since will have already been decided by then? And does anyone know if making corrections at this point negative affect our awards, since it’s past the deadline for initial awards? I of course will call them first thing tomorrow as well.

I spoke with a Cal Grant representative today, and she said that it does not in fact matter what school you have listed first. You will be considered for all schools that you have listed. Everyone on here seems to think it matters whether you have a UC listed first, so I’m curious where that information is coming from.

And I’m sorry if this thread annoyed you, ocnative.

@music1990

It comes from here: <a href=“CCC to UC transfer- Cal Grant Rant - UC Transfers - College Confidential Forums”>http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/uc-transfers/1505328-ccc-to-uc-transfer-cal-grant-rant.html

Thanks Cayton and everyone else. I don’t get it though, because I looked on my fafsa, and I do have a UC as my first choice. Yes on Cal Grant, it still lists my cc as my school choice. And I talked to 2 representatives who said it wouldn’t be a problem even if I did have my cc as my first choice. I’m so confused by all of this. If anyone else has any further insight that would be great.

@music1990 one of the UC web pages said to list a more expensive CA college first because the initial grant amount will be assumed to be the amount needed for the first choice, and a cc is less expensive. Once the grants are awarded, they are gone, is my understanding. I am trying to remember which UC it was, it might have been Davis, but I am not sure.

My Cal Grant lists my CC as my school choice as well. The representative for Cal Grants said we can change it in June. I mean it’s not going to make a difference now vs june because it’s not like Fall 2014’s money will be disbursed in June. March 3 is just the application deadline, not the school deadline.
